Hello you, I’m Funes.


q. is there a story behind the mix? how did it come together?

The story behind the mix is that this year I had to say goodbye to two important people in my life. I recorded the mix during this difficult time to process the whole thing a little bit. It was an evening where I tried to bring light and dark together and let the feelings run free.


q. in your opinion, what would be the ideal circumstances to enjoy 
your mix?

Put on headphones and close your eyes no matter what circumstances are going on.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

The Windows.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

At the moment I don't have a bigger music project in front of me. Maybe I will release some own productions here on Soundcloud/Bandcamp. But I'm going to be out in nature a lot in the near future to focus on myself, to calm down, to clear my mind and to look ahead.

Funes and Gabriel met on the tubes of the internet over a mutual love of sounds of the deeep, and have since kept in touch :) As well as being a talented producer, Funes is a fantastic and wondrous DJ, and has put out mixes for @sewersender, @M50 and @living_roooom amongst others.

We first came across Funes through his engaging sets, continuously unfolding layers that pull you deeper in. When we got in touch, he shared his perspective on music beyond the club, how he uses it as a personal outlet to channel emotions and craft something beautiful. For Funes, music isn't just something you listen to; it's a space to reflect, lose yourself, and create a meaningful connection with the world around you, something we deeply resonate with. This podcast is a continuation of his exploration of sound and self.

Through this mix, Funes invites you to experience deep, melancholic pads, cinematic textures, hypnotic rhythms, and the heartbeat of techno, dub, noise, and experimental elements. He also integrates music without a beat, reflecting his love for breaks and bass. His vision extends beyond the dance floor: "With my music, I want to create a special sphere that goes on a deeper level where you have to engage seriously with what you are listening to," he shares. “Music for me also has a significant relevance at alternative spaces, i.e., at home, where it is possible to take you on a kind of dreamy journey and open your mind in another way."

The release of Agonia in 2021 marked a defining moment in Funes's path. Self-released on Bandcamp, the album was deeply personal, created as a way to process the loss of his father who passed away three years earlier. “Life is very complex, and with music, you can give it a kind of sonic picture,” he explains. This powerful emotional outlet has become central to his artistic identity, allowing him to transform life’s contrasts—the dark and the bright—into inspiration.

By combining the track selection for this mix, Funes hopes to create spaces to forget, gain spirituality, and find meaning.

Inspiration zieht Funes aus dem Leben selbst, mit all seinen Höhen und Tiefen. Musik ist Ausdruck innerer Prozesse so etwa beim Debütalbum Agonia (2021), das als Selbstveröffentlichung auf Bandcamp erschien und den Verlust des Vaters verarbeitet.
