2023 UPDATE: The above paragraph was my perspective and deep thoughts about the universe many years ago (probably while stoned :D). While its sounds deep and meaningful, I no longer perceive the universe in this way because I have since learned that we have been deceived about the true nature of our earth realm, the universe and pretty much everything in our existence. But when you've seen what stars and wandering stars (planets) REALLY look like (not what fraudsters like nasa show us) then you will know I wasn't that far off of the mark :)

All About :: The Art of Collage & Rhetorical Velocity

I am specifically interested in situations where composers anticipate and strategize future third-party remixing of their compositions as part of a larger and complex rhetorical strategy that plays out across physical and digital spaces. We find this type of thinking—the asking of “how might the text be rewritten?” and “why, where, and for whom might this text be rewritten?”—an increasingly important set of questions in a digital age characterized, for instance, by swift, easy, and deep web searching and by copying and pasting practices. 

COLLAGE ::  Artistic compositions of materials and objects pasted and/or sewn/woven over and through surfaces, often with unifying and/or juxtaposing structures, lines, colors, themes in order to create textured, alive, amplified spaces. 

SYNTHESIS (AKA Mashup): Creating Compelling Texts comprised of borrowed, reconstituted, and original material.

The art of creating such compositions.

An assemblage of diverse elements.

To paste and/or sew/weave (diverse materials) over a surface, thereby creating an artistic product.

Stephen Carr a.k.a. Digital is one of the UK’s well-respected & inspirational drum and bass producers with a career spanning 20yrs plus and a seminal catalogue of original & innovative releases to date. 

His signature bass-lines & radicalized dubbed out sounds reach back to his childhood seeing his Father run his own sound-system for nearly thirty years in Ipswich, UK. The moniker ‘Digital’ was given to Steve by the Ashanti Sound system, immediately recognizing his technical ability operating a sound system at the age of 14 while also relating the moniker to the future, his youth and the emergence of the digital age. It wasn’t long before Digital used his dad's sound-system on his own, in 1991, with the ‘rave scene’ growing in & around Ipswich he started to hire-out the system to various promoters, noticeably Danny C who he befriended through their love of music and raving. This is when he really got interested in the rave scene and its music triggering his curiosity that drew his attention to production…
