Brian Foo is a data visualization artist at the American Museum of Natural History, as well as a close personal friend of mine. Brian and I served as the 2020 Innovators in Residence at the Library of Congress, where I had the opportunity to follow along as Brian developed Citizen DJ, an incredible project that empowers the American public to explore the Library’s free-to-use audio and make hip hop music. Over the past year, I’ve also had the chance to learn about Brian’s relationship with music and how it informs his work. Brian was kind enough to agree to an interview for Rainy Dawg. On October 2nd, 2020, we sat down over zoom to discuss music, Citizen DJ, and Brian’s own personal journey. I hope you enjoy the interview!
