Zaumne's new album titled Élévation is a multifaceted yet subtle work, an abstract collage that is equally entrancing and immersive. Quoting passages from Baudelaire’s “Flowers of Evil”, the Polish musician promises to elevate the soul and consciousness “Beyond the sun / Beyond the ether”. Yet simultaneously, the artist wants us to stay where we are and focus on the immediate surroundings in search of our personal attachment to the world.

Initially recorded for the WET (Weird Erotic Tension) online community the four pieces are an exploration of erotic aspects of the environment and uncanny intimacy with other beings and objects that dwell in our nearest proximity. Just like on previous releases for labels like Czaszka Rec. or Perfect Aesthetics, on Élévation Zaumne maintains his interest in emotional aspects of sound and internet culture – he builds his compositions from fragments of ASMR-whispered poetry, samples of natural phenomena and field recordings from his family home and its environ.

What starts as an escapist exercise driven by uneasiness and ennui becomes an individual healing process, in which the subject rediscovers the strangely intimate relationship with the world and opens up to almost magical methods of communicating with other beings. ASMR samples and sounds of the artist touching, playing with and exciting different objects are an experiment in establishing contact with the non-human realm and a method of attuning the body and the mind to the reality in which everything is interconnected.

Zaumne tests Einstein’s “spooky action at a distance” through radical, sensual intimacy with what’s near, finding a glimpse of the absolute in his own room, again quoting Baudelaire: “To a child who is fond of maps and engravings / The universe is the size of his immense hunger”. Following the "Materia" EP in collaboration with Circuit 900 released on our label last year and followed by an EP of remixes few months after, we're very pleased to welcome again the Norwegian producer Soldal, member of the KOSO CLUB family, alongside Tokyo-based producer T5UMUT5UMU, who been released on labels such as Knightwerk, Loveless Records and FunctionLab.

For our first album release of 2024, we are excited and honored to welcome Sote to the SVBKVLT family with ‘Ministry of Tall Tales’

Ata Ebtekar, better known as Sote, is an electronic music composer and sound artist based in Tehran, Iran. His wide-ranging love of rich sounds and textures is embodied in diverse paths such as hardcore club sounds, collaborations that straddle (traditional) acoustic and electronic instrumentation, and solo experimental electronics – making Ebtekar equally at home in concert halls, galleries, or clubs. Over the last three decades, he has released on labels such as Warp, Sub Rosa, Morphine, Diagonal, and Opal Tapes.

‘Ministry of Tall Tales’ is an electronic music composition that reflects on hyperbolic orchestrations of political and social current affairs.

In this work, notions such as misinformation/disinformation, biased mental states, bigotry, dogma and ultimately corruption are brainchild of the composer in order to achieve a sonic spirit in abstract form.

Ludicrous and distorted human behaviors are told by magnifying musical intervals and entering the spaces in-between, and simultaneously dramatizing subtle microtonal motifs, ultra-fine polyrhythmic, polymetric and polytempic pitched patterns assemble the skeleton of an engine symbolizing various systems.

The configuration and framework of this mechanism represents both harmonious and non-harmonious aspects in society. Rearranging and coloring components of tradition, neglecting moral codes, and separating ingredients of rituals to showcase humankind’s failures and accomplishments.

The composer has been experiencing an immense amount of frustration, anger, confusion, helplessness and fear because of what has been happening in his surroundings and the sociopolitical system. Consequently, the music is contemplations on corruption, oppression and murder.

“Ministry Of Tall Tales” is an all-synthesis based work, dark and melodic with a noise aesthetic.

"The most negative emotions are neither grief nor anger that cannot be suppressed, but shame.

Shame is the disease of the soul. It is one of the most heartbreaking experiences. Shame is the wound inside. It separates us from ourselves and also separates us from others.

In shame, one's self-consciousness is 'split' - imagine that when we are in the eyes of another person - the self-consciousness of people in shame will have such a split, themselves Always in your own eyes.

Shame is the first and most essential cause of all violence (whether for individual violence or for specific groups of people). Anger, assault, and violence are all coping strategies for shame.

Using seemingly powerful anger to mask the powerless shame. In order to cope with shame, the individual externalizes the internal blame on the self to the outside world and others, and then angers and attacks the outside world and others. This feeling is better to endure than pure shame.

Unlike most emotions, shame does not disappear with time, it lurks in us. It is the least easily recognized and released emotion, it is the most secretive emotion. ”

SHAME by Laughing Ears will be released on FunctionLab on November 19, 2019. Shame, To Cover, Self-loathing, Keep in the dark, combines the four emotions into one EP, showing Laughing Ears' most hidden and bare personal feelings.
