San Francisco-born, Berlin-based artist Chloe Lula has been involved with the electronic music scene for more than a decade, helming record labels and throwing parties for years before beginning to DJ. She started producing her first live sets in 2019, when she completed a month-long artist residency with Drew McDowall of Coil. The experience ignited her confidence in composition and allowed her to combine her classical cello training with electronics, melding granular synthesis with acoustic riffs and metallic percussion to create an alloyed brand of droned-out industrial electronica. Many of these jams ended up becoming the tracks on her debut EP with aufnahme + wiedergabe, where she’s been a resident for four years.
As a DJ, Chloe has played at Berghain, Tresor, Reaktor, Movement weekend in Detroit, and countless clubs, festivals, and DIY parties across Europe, the Caucasus, and North America. She’s performed regularly alongside artists like Ron Morelli, Silent Servant, DJ Hell, Broken English Club, Reka, and Thomas P Heckmann, becoming known for atmospheric sets that dig deep into niche releases and span electro, wave, industrial, techno, acid, and synthy experimental. In addition to her career as a DJ, she is also a music journalist and a selector for her monthly punk show, ‘No Exit,’ on Cashmere Radio.

THC Podcast Series 080 - Chloe Lula

For the first podcast of the year, we invite CONCEPTUAL. After almost a decade of producing under the duo of Beat Movement, the artist started a solo project driven by extremely visceral textures. The first output under the CONCEPTUAL was the album released on Oscar Mulero's Warm Up Recordings. His set display a similar fashion, with carefully selected tracks that can go deep or industrial, but all with a distinct sound to catch your attention. In this mix, he went for an experimental deep and tribal excursion: something we may have never heard before.

Born in France, and now based in Berlin since 7 years, has been honing his DJing craft for a decade now.
An avid vinyl collector and techno and house enthusiast, his DJ sets and tracks combine raw, dark and deep elements with straightforward grooves reminiscent of the dark winter closings of Berlin techno clubs.
He has been part of the founding team of Château Perché Festival in 2015 and he is resident DJ at the Château Perché Festival, and also host a monthly radio show on Keep It Radio Berlin.
The radio show has been designed to create sonic atmospheres to allow some escape to the listener, some soundscape.

'The set I created especially for MWTG is an invitation to listeners on a journey through various techno genres. There is not always room to create a certain musical landscape when playing in a club, and the possibility of recording a conceptual set allows you to build a certain musical story. Techno is a very wide range of subgenres, and when creating a playlist for MWTG I wanted to focus primarily on building energy - using tracks in the style of raw, hardgroove, hypnotic, and even hard techno, all at a tempo of 142 BPM. This range of genres is closest to me and I am happy to be able to take you with me on this techno journey'.

James Kite, a graduate of the legendary Technical School of Music Mechanization, where from his youth he became familiar with the Berlin sounds straight from the radio. His attention has always been drawn to deep, low frequencies and a strong beat. After years of working on various musical projects, under the nickname James Kite he decided to also take up a position behind the DJ console. The raw and hypnotic styles are closest to his heart, they are where he feels best, although he sometimes ventures into industrial, hard, deep, and sometimes melodic directions in his musical landscapes. He is not interested in commercialism or remixes of radio hits - it should be strong, energetic and raw.
