Asteries | Cover [v2]

A while back when Toby was hiring people to help with transcribing music for Deltarune, I had applied. Few weeks later, he replied that he would not be accepting anyone under the age of 18, but I took this opportunity to ask him a question about Undertale's OST. I've always wondered why he has reused Megalovania's melody for Undertale. As you probably know, Megalovania was composed by Toby Fox and originally was intended to be a soundtrack for an Earthbound mod he was creating. He sent me this audio file in response, and told me that the battle song for Sans was originally going to be called "Bonafied Diligence". He then told me about the backstory of MEGALOVANIA, saying that this was the original melody written for the San's genocide route battle. However, after composing this, he felt that it didn't feel 'iconic' enough. Then, that's when he remembered his old melody from Megalovania. He felt that reusing this melody wouldn't be too bad, since it had only been known around the Homestuck and Earthbound community. He had told me since Megalovania was pretty popular within those communities, he wanted to reuse the song because he felt that it had an iconic vibe to it. He also wanted to spread Homestuck and Earthbound's culture this way, as he felt that those communities needed more attention as it was his beloved franchises as a young person.
