Matt McGuire, AKA Keylow, is a Detroit-born DJ and producer with a deep love for bass. He began his musical journey in the Detroit  scene and quickly found his passion in DJing and production. Keylow's style is fast, groovy, and bassy, influenced by trap and hip-hop.  His unique sound can be characterized as Detroit-Techno-Breaks-House. 


After immersing himself in the dance music scene and forming a duo, Keylow pursued a degree in Audio Engineering in London, Ontario. Armed with new skills, he started producing music across various genres, always seeking fresh sounds to incorporate into his sets.


Keylow's talent caught the attention of renowned Detroit techno legend Justin James, leading to opportunities like playing at album release parties. He opened shows for esteemed artists such as G-rex, The Killabits, and Grandtheft, leaving a lasting impression in the underground music scene.


In search of new inspiration and a more bass-influenced sound, Keylow made the bold move to Vancouver, British Columbia. Surrounded by a thriving music community, he refined his productions, blending elements from his past experiences.


Currently based in Vancouver, Keylow continues to evolve his craft and explore new musical territories. He is dedicated to producing fresh tunes and is preparing to release his latest creations. Alongside his music career, Keylow also contributes his expertise in audio engineering to the community that has supported him. With his unwavering passion and determination, Keylow is poised to make a lasting impact on the music industry, one bass-heavy track at a time.

Favourite genres include Motown, northern souls , ambient, Trance, breaks, Progressive House, Deep House, Melodic House, jungle, liquid dnd and Techno.

What started in the mid nineties as a mission to create funky electro beats now has become a staple of the funky/electro Florida sound. There was a blending and fusing of funky breaks and electro beats which later became known as the Funk Lab. With influences coming from their efforts as DJs within the breaks community, the two had been immersed within the sound that they had come to love. With a diverse back catalog ranging from Florida style funky breaks to the darker, moodier electro, the Funk Lab has engaged a variety of listeners from both the US and abroad.

As soon as the first release was available on vinyl, licensing requests began from such labels as Street Beat, Adrenalin, Journees, Zazoo, Pioneer, and others. Tracks became staples of electro and funky breaks mix compilations as well as backing music for MTV programming and EA's "Need For Speed IV High Stakes" for the Sony Playstation. The Funk Lab was breaking new ground and finding new fans within a diverse universe of media.

During the early years of the Funk Lab, the idea was tossed around to do a live performance, bringing the fans and artists together, exploring the music, re-editing, re-mixing, and re-shaping the tunes that had drawn them in. The first several shows were enough to propel several years worth of weekend touring, playing from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Vancouver, Ca with gigs in most major cities friendly to dance music and more especially breaks. These Live performances drove the inspiration to continue to push the limits of what could be done with live sequencing. Utilizing two MPC2000's, Zip Discs and other various hardware at the shows became the staple of the live Funk Lab experience. Manipulating the sequences, the audio, the music with outboard effects and creative mixing allowed the shows to become a life of their own. No two were ever the same. Ever.

Later the Funk Lab focused on bringing even more to the table. Starting a sub-label, Overhead Records which was an outlet for a little less familiar sounding material. Sort of an experiment with neighboring artists. While working on the sub label, C4, began to pursue the electro funky break hard house sound. Becoming the House Wrecka, he released a series of successful tunes on the Hallucin8 Trax label, run by The Monk of Hallucination Records. Darryl (B.Nice) continued to pursue the darker, electro/nu-break/funk sound with a number of releases on both the FLR Imprint and others such as Afterdark Records.

Presently Funk Lab Records has teamed up with Stephen Moon of Twin Shape in order to re-boot the Funk Lab Records label. Cory Hughes has also joined the team and will be providing label support as he continues to develop his funky-electro-dubby-breaks style. We are currently seeking new material from both new and established artists.
