Sisters Love was an American R&B and funk ensemble active in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Sisters Love was founded in 1968 by former members of The Raelettes. Several of Ray Charles's backing ensemble quit the band at the same time and soon afterwards organized themselves into their own vocal group.[1]

They recorded their first single in 1968 for Los Angeles label Manchild Records and soon after signed with A&M Records. They remained on A&M for several years, appearing in the Willie Hutch-scored blaxploitation film The Mack singing the funk song "Now Is the Time".[1] They scored a hit single in 1971 with "Are You Lonely?", written and produced by Gene Chandler, which reached #20 on the Billboard R&B charts[2] and #108 on the Billboard Singles Chart.[3]
In 1972, the group left A&M and signed with MoWest Records, a Motown subsidiary. 
They toured with the Jackson Five and had an album scheduled for release in 1972, but this was shelved and the group disbanded in 1973; the recordings for the album remained unreleased until 2010.

Black Betty, once an American folk song, previously performed by blues musicians such as Lead Belly. A few years later the band Ram Jam made a Hardrock cover of ‘Black Betty’  and became instantly famous. Weslo liked the Ram Jam version so much, that he decided to make a B’More inspired bootleg out of this golden classic.

The result? A true club banger!

Tim Maia, THE Brazilian Funk Soul Godfather was the real thing. His 1970 debut album introduced his audacious talent, as well as North American soul and funk musical influences, forever changing Brazilian popular music. His legendary appetites sought out carnal AND spiritual fulfillment in equal measure.  He bought 100 hits of LSD and handed them out to the staff of his record label. At the height of his mid-70s success he joined the Cult of Racional Energy; watching for spaceships while wearing only white clothes and playing only white instruments! Yet the two albums he recorded for the Cult are among his best. His songs search for love, and they dig into the existential. His own lyrics say it best: “I am so groovy now and I don’t care!”

Hey guys. Passing here to let you know that a sound came out on my SoundCloud. Since this is the week of black consciousness, I thought it important to produce something with this theme.
We live in a country where my ancestors and the vast majority of the population have been enslaved leaving scars in our society to this day.
We must always remember our history and be resistance. ✊🏼 The sample I used for this beat is a capoeira corner from Angola, the style of capoeira that most closely resembles the one practiced in the time of slavery.

Angola is the closest capoeira style to how black slaves fought capoeira. Characterized by being slower, with rapid movements performed close to the ground, as above, it emphasizes the traditions of capoeira, which at its root is linked to the Afro-Brazilian rituals, characterized by candomblé. Its music is cadenciada, organic and ritualized and the correct thing is always to be accompanied by a complete battery of eight instruments, called Angola battery.

It is a manifestation of Brazilian popular culture in which aspects normally understood in a manner segmented by the culture that has become official, such as play, dance, mime, struggle and ancestry, coexist in a cohesive, simple and synthetic way. It has its origins in elements of the culture of various shades of African peoples who were enslaved and kept in captivity in Brazil from the 16th century until the end of the 19th century, syncretized with elements of native cultures (indigenous peoples) and of European origin.

As someone who started Dj'ing in the 90s, I though it was probably time I put a mix together of some of the classic jams we used to get down to back in the day.
Like any era, there's a lot of BS online about what we were really listening to, but I like to think this is an honest representation of what was going on, at least for a South London boy.

Intentionally avoided too much housey stuff, UK garage, DnB and nu school breaks as I reckon that will all deserve it's own mix though kicking off with a few RnB gems, some early funky & feel good 90s hip hop, acid jazz as well as a nod to the Big Beat movement and naturally a few dance classics to finish.

Hope you all like it. Took a while to put together though good fun taking that journey back and rediscovering some quality jams. Tried to avoid too many avoid choices but hopefully some classic vibes to give everyone a taste of some of that 90s goodness!!!

Take a journey through the chromosphere and explore the spectrum of colors, sounds and stories the Kromanauts are ready to share with you. Washington, DC's own Kromanauts deftly fuse together reggae, hip-hop, ska and more to create irresistible tropical soul.  In 2018 the band released their debut album and are excited to follow up that release with remixes of the album's title track, Nothing To Lose.  

This release starts with the original version of Nothing To Lose, a high energy swinging ska/reggae track.  Kanjia's lyrics draw the listener in, and we learn that the chips are stacked now, and the Kromanauts don't have Nothing To Lose.  Crisp drum breaks are augmented by skanking guitar licks and ethereal percussion.  The whole vibe is that classic 1960's renegade rudeboy attitude, but ready to dance the reggae and share a good vibe.

The Kromanauts tapped some red hot producers around the world to reinterpret this track and first up is Jayl Funk from Germany.  Jayl Funk fully embraces the vibe of the original and doubles down in every department. Get ready for harder hitting drums, bigger basslines and some really cool horn lines throughout.  The result is to take this groovy reggae track straight to the dancefloor, this remix will get the people moving and grooving all night.  Complete with a full breakdown and build-up, that hangs on the vocals until the drop for full effect.

Never one to shy away from a rudeboy anthem, Budapest's own DJ Clairvo remixed Nothing To Lose into a midtempo funky ragga classic.  Crank the volume on this one, he's included some warped synth lines and booming bass to go with the guitars and horns.  Whether with his Mustbeat Crew or Lack Jemmon, Clairvo flexes his skills here with ease, putting additional effects on the vocals and creating a more laid back vibe than previous versions.

Closing out the release is Omegaman from Sydney, Australia who certainly knows his way around a skanking riddim and reggae sounds.  Omegaman has crafted another dancefloor workout, this one will appeal to even the coolest head nodders in the club.  Amping up the beats and breaks, flushing out more guitar work and with 'nuf reverb throughout Omegaman has put together a rudeboy anthem.  Fans of his previous work and remixes will be happy to add this track to the growing canon of Omegaman classics.
