One of the biggest-selling jazz single of all time, “Take Five” talks about overcoming obstacles, articulating a creative vision, and seizing upon spontaneity. If legacy has a time signature, it would probably be 5/4. This was recorded live at The Forge in London.

Dave Brubeck (Take five)

Take Five is a jazz classic composed by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out. Sadly Dave was on Columbia but undoubtedly influenced by Blue Note. It's another great arrangement from Devian, this time with a samba beat. The melody line doesn't lend itself to the guitar so I have restricted myself to a solo only. See if you can spot a cheeky 4 bars of Techno!

"Take Five" is a jazz piece composed by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out. Recorded at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studio in New York City on July 1, 1959,[1] fully two years later it became an unlikely one-hit wonder and the best-selling jazz single of all time.[2] Written in the key of E-flat minor, it is famous for its distinctive two-chord[3] piano vamp; catchy blues-scale saxophone melody; imaginative, jolting drum solo;[4] and use of the unusual quintuple (5/4) time, from which its name is derived.[5] It was first played by the Quartet to a live audience at the Village Gate nightclub in New York City in 1959. Hi all, so from 2016 to 2024 I assembled and produced a large collection of covers of many of my favorite tunes as my own hobby (and many during COVID lock-downs!) and I have accumulated over 2,800,000 plays across the world which is awesome!

I am much more of a producer that a musician. These first 8 years of my music was mostly based on midi cover tracks often downloaded from the Internet but heavily reproduced and re-imagined variously on my two Yamaha keyboards (Clavinova and PSR 975), but also using PC midi editing & DAW software.

Towards the end of that period, I added some of my more original electronic music which I produced over the past two decades under the name of Funkleberry in order to consolidate my Soundcloud accounts. 

But in 2024 I got into AI music generation and I am now  a freelance sonwriter and AI music producer. It's been a fun journey!
