[It’s definitely not a Christmas song, but the mood should feel acceptably Christmassy].

A few years ago I tried setting this text to music; it’s very well known here among students because it is considered one of the earliest attestations of the Italian language. Discovered on an inner leaf of a liturgical codex preserved in Verona, it was written between the 8th and 9th centuries by an anonymous hand. It is regarded as a “riddle” (see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronese_Riddle), generating an enormous amount of scholarship. 
To me, its musicality is evident. 

Compared to the version I recorded in 2018 (I had posted it on YouTube, where it still is), based on the Washburn and the sounds of my old Yamaha, I added some VSTs and re-equalized the vocals. Back then, multiplying the vocal tracks was the most fun part, in order to obtain a choral effect. What came out is what I would call a “false traditional folk song".

I love the idea of what AI can help us with now and into the future but I still worry about the way it's developing now and the hands that have the control of its evolution. These hands are not founded in the ethics we need to make it as safe as possible. In the short term I see it just amplifying technology addiction in particular for the younger users who will have never known the before time. It's also certainly harming artistic rights and possibly stifling creativity for many instead of honing it mostly due to the lack of ethical development which is disappointing. I'd suggest designing an intelligence founded on theft sounds like a very bad idea for it's future moral judgement.

I am an optimist (though maybe not in this song 😆) and I'd like to think we will power through this phase and fix the warts eventually.

We don't seem to be intelligent enough yet to develop this properly so maybe the emotionless intelligence AI can offer us might help humanity deliver itself a more centered existence. Although that sounds messed up, we have done a bad job with our collective intelligence and it's getting worse if we look at the lack of morality we show each other and the xenophobia that still exists and is growing across the globe. Maybe AI can help us fix that with easier access to education at least.

So far all it is is a lightning fast library so once the core information isn't manipulated by it's developers then that's a short term positive for us and hopefully the knowledge it feeds our collective intelligence will drive thoughtful regulation before it gets quantum computer power . This is when it may be able to reach AGi and could be dangerous for us. It's possible that computing power won't even deliver AGI and the reality it seems is we still don't know enough about the computing power of our own heads to make the judgement yet as to whether AGI is possible at all in a digital system. Here's hoping we have time to thoughfully line up the ducks before the broligarchy rush us to an unknown point in the effective arms race they have created to evolve the tech and which is being allowed by political circles wanting a slice of that power.

It ain't AI we need to worry about in my opinion... It's the humans creating it we need to reign in! The development of social media and the destruction of our collective attention for profit proves what these people will do with AI if we don't alter course. More control for more profit and if we are not careful we will have extremely high unemployment really soon with not much of a plan in place to deal with that.
