Hopestreet Recordings is an artist-run record label based in Brunswick since 2009. From the humblest of DIY beginnings, this community of musicians, producers and writers has carved out a global niche for their old-school inspired crusty analogue creations. Hopestreet represents the diversity, quality of musicianship and originality of Melbourne’s inner Northern music community, and keeps developing their distinct sound, production approach year to year, and audiences all over are responding.

Tokyo / NYC-based artist Yellowtail has had a consistent flow of quality releases, with tracks and remixes appearing on influential labels such as Brownswood, Defected, Sonar Kollektiv, Coopr8, Tokyo Dawn, Raw Fusion, Compost, Irma, Fluid Ounce/ Tru Thoughts, Amalgama, Sick Trumpet, Unique Uncut, Dancing Turtle and more. In addition, Yellowtail has collaborated with artists like Jose James, Mark Murphy, Monday Michiru, Eska, Alison Crockett and provided remixes for artists like Jazzanova, Alice Russell, Colonel Red & more.

Irish composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Amsterdam, Oisín Akiboye Conolly (aka OAC).

Oisín began his musical journey at a young age, growing up in Ireland surrounded by traditional Irish music. He started with the violin before progressing on to cello, with which he was classically trained. Piano and guitar soon joined his repertoire, as well as a love for composing and recording.

He studied in England at Keele University, where he acquired the skills necessary to begin recording and producing his pieces. It was also during this time that he began collaborating and experimenting with various other genres that have undoubtedly influenced his current style.

Favorite Recordings is a French label focusing on Soul, Funk, Jazz and other related genres from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. With a rich catalog combining original productions and reissues. Founded in 2006 by Pascal Rioux aka Charles Maurice, the label quickly established itself as an international reference. Under his artistic direction, Favorite Recordings offers a real journey, from the AOR of Al Sunny and Lucas Arruda, to the Jazz-Funk of Andre Solomko and Aldorande, passing by the plainly Afro and Brazilians territories of Voilaaa or Di Melo.

Along these new artists’ projects, a few other strong markers cannot be missed such as the now classic French Disco Boogie Sounds and AOR Global Sounds compilations series. 

Like both sides of the same coin, reissues and contemporary productions ultimately reflect the same passion for the warm and analog sound of musical production’s golden age. Today, again and again, Favorite Recordings aims to ensure the succession.
