There is a discernible revival for the short lived ambient-house genre. This is surely a sign that the 90's are getting the retro love it deserves, and I'm all for it.  Interest for this era has never been higher in eons. Those tracks are full of space-alien references, obscure movies from the 90's, meditation lectures from gurus of that time and dreamy pads with acid leads. Most of these tracks found their way onto the shelves of many discerning listeners in the 90's thanks to a frothy mix of dubwise ambient house and melodic electronica aimed for post-club melting sessions. Selected by friends and colleagues, the tracks on Richard D. James’ debut LP from 1992 were of marginal importance to him. He probably would have chosen different ones 30 years later, but Selected Ambient Works is still part of techno's history, having influenced a whole subculture on the way as a result of an adolescent idiosyncratic vision of electronic music.

Welcome the 100th chapter of the Deep Electronics Podcast. 

First of all I want to thank all artists that have participated with this serie but also the artists that created the Ambient Sessions and the Showcase serie. Without your love for music, mixing, producing and more, this project wasn’t possible. And a big thank you to all listeners, followers and fans!!!

Starting in February 2013 with the idea to combine photography and deep electronic music together I never thought about it that it would come this far! I even started a netlabel on Bandcamp in the early 2014. The podcast series also involves a lot of contacts all over the globe. Finding producers and DJ’s that want to share there music. Thank you for that!
I hope for the near future that I expand the netlabel and spread more mixes

But for now I present you the 100th  chapter mixed by Deepchord. Thank you Rod for making this happen!!

Bio:

Rod Modell (a.k.a. Deepchord) is a sound-designer with 25 years involvement in electronic music and over 50 releases under various aliases and styles. Beginning with more "industrial" and "ambient" forms of sonic experimentation (working with Kim Cascone and his -then- record-label Silent, and performing with notable industrial acts such as Chris & Cosey and SPK). While attending Art School for Photography, Rod lived in Detroit's Eastern-Market area, the location of the infamous "techno boulevard", and home to Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson during that time. Submersed in the blossoming Detroit Techno scene (early 1990's), a journey from a more experimental sound into Detroit's techno-world was inevitable. Modell co-founded the Deepchord record label in Detroit during the mid-90's. Deepchord respected and admired (fellow Detroiters) Underground Resistance for their D.I.Y. attitude and independence. It was because of this respect and admiration that Deepchord declined offers from top techno labels of the time, in favor of doing it by themselves. Many consider Deepchord to be the second wave of the "Basic Channel sound", and came years before the onslaught of imitators.

It's been over a year since our last contribution to the Appian Sounds Artists Mix Series. I suppose this has coincided with a general slowdown in output from the label (this will change shortly with 2 new releases planned).

I am very happy to introduce Kloor who released a lovely track called Snowcone on our last Various Artists release. We didn't mention it then but Kloor is actually a new alias for Aural Imbalance. For those that don't know Aural Imbalance he is an incredibly talented and versatile producer who has been around for 25 years. From ambient through his "Inhmost" moniker to deep melodic techno, progressive and trance as "Deep Space Organisms" to beautiful Drum n Bass as TQ One - Simon Huxtable can do it all. https://soundcloud.com/auralimbalance


On top of his obvious talent as a producer he certainly knows how to put a mix together too - i would highly recommend tracking these down. Here over 2 hours he has selected timeless works of his own from his various aliases and has also handpicked some of his recent favourites from friends and artists he admires - traversing ambient, deep techno and Drum n Bass.
