2-04 Mega Man Battle Network - ectogemia - Amps Macabre

Recently, I was approached to remix a track by Modern American Theatre. They're an LA based indie rock band and friends of mine. You might have heard of them, and if you haven't yet, I strongly recommend checking them out.. they sound really good.

The track I chose to remix is Berlin Reunited: And It Feels So Good. Originally 175 bpm (or 87.5 however you look at it), filled with distortion guitar, fast-paced drums and high energy, it's been dramatically altered in virtually every way. You could say it's been given the 'Funk Fiction' or the 'PJ Funky House' treatment. Vocals have been time stretched down to classic 127 bpm, enter some Fender Rhodes, swingin' hats, housy rhythms, jazzy chords, funky analog synth glisses, filters, strings, vocal chopping/sampling, and groovin' basslines... now you have the Funk Fiction Mix of Berlin.

Dave/Blitz Lunar recently created a soundfont using the instruments from Bomberman 64, my favorite childhood game - and I wrote a song with it! These sounds make me ridiculously nostalgic and happy.

A: The other upload is a WIP version of a different incarnation of the full track that this is an excerpt from. This short edit is specifically intended as one of the Special Stage tracks for Sonic: After the Sequel, and retains the same applause/turntable power down staples of the other Special Stage remixes.

Q: But if the other one is a WIP, shouldn't this be a WIP too?
A: No, this is final. I'm completely fine with the excerpt being different in both mix and arrangement from the full version should that change. They aren't intended to be identical, after all. Also this means that this incarnation is download-enabled. Yay!

Q: So what exactly are the other uses of this Radical Train remix?
A: Aside from this excerpt being used for ATS, the material in full or in part is also intended as a contribution to an otherwise undisclosed compilation album (shhhh), to inspire a certain someone to get off his buttbottom and finish the Generations port of this level, and as part of my Berklee College of Music MP&E major final project. Efficient use of effort and all that. In part, call this an experiment in which I'm hoping to capitalize on cross-interest/networking to help build exposure for all these disparate elements of the project.

The older version was done over the course of about 8 months so there's a huge discrepency in sound/production quality across the set. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give them another pass and get live soloists so they sound way more consistent. This revisit is what eventually made it into the mod release.

Could probably have made it sound even closer to the originals, but eh, diminishing returns, plus I really, REALLY, need to finish ATS soundtrack. Like. ASAP. To you dudes who have been waiting extra patiently for that, I got sidetracked by a couple of career-related offers I absolutely can't turn down (Working with/for people you've very likely heard game music by) but yeah, last stretch on home ground for ATS.
