Ah, Byron, Byron, Byron—what can we say? We're absolutely enamoured with this guy's music. And, we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome him into our family on Low Recordings.

We are back with our second vinyl release, featuring Byron's "Love 4 Music." This 4-track EP is a celebration of love, with Side A and Side B showcasing two distinct styles where Byron truly shines. Side A delivers the club hits, while Side B envelops us in a soulful/R&B/deep house vibe.

Kicking off Side A is "Creepin' With U." The track begins with haunting chords that exude an eerie and raw vibe, swiftly leading into a thumping, club-certified kick drum. As the song progresses, a hint of nostalgia from the lo-fi days creeps in, complemented by vocal samples that add to the eerie atmosphere. Yes, it's eerie, but it's also robust and captivating—perfect for enticing bodies to move on a warehouse dance floor.

Next up is "Work That Girl (Tribal Mix)," the heavyweight of the four, tailor-made for the club/warehouse scene. The track starts with the clicking and clacking of hats and snares, Byron's vocals weaving in and out of the mix. The lyrics are crafted for a sweaty night of dancing, and as the kicks thump in, the energy rises. Byron's trademark chords seamlessly ooze into the mix, uniting our bodies with the song. Acid-sounding notes eventually lead us in and out of the groove—a solid club anthem.

Flipping over to Side B, we're greeted by "Inner Visions," where Byron slows things down and takes us in a different direction. A classic synth line initiates the track with a smooth kick, creating an airy vibe that melds perfectly with its melody. As the song grooves, Byron's soulful vocals pierce through, infusing warmth into his words. The warmth persists as the song progresses, with his voice echoing slightly more dissonance, leaving us with a proper vision for the closing track.

Closing out the EP, Byron guides us with a vision for a fun night in "Make Me Feel." Deep with a touch of R&B, the song exudes warmth and is all about feeling good with the person who got you through the night. Byron's sultry voice sits perfectly on the track as the basslines guide us through. His playful nature keeps things light and fun, rounding off the EP on a high note.

PREMIERE: Byron The Aquarius - Inner Visions [Low Recordings]

Zopelar returns to Tartelet with Ritmo Freak, an electric eight-track album from the beating heart of the Brazilian underground, out May 10.

In a flurry of madcap sampling pitched towards the heat of the night, Pedro Zopelar builds on the premise of his 2022 electro-funk love letter Charme, shifting his approach towards a particular 90s flair and a method with a specific end result.

Ritmo Freak took root in studio experiments for a momentous — and rare — live set at São Paulo festival Não Existe in 2023, where Zopelar was caught up in one of those right-place, right-time moments we carry with us through life. As he explains himself:

“This album is dedicated to freaky club culture. While I was playing at the festival there was a crazy tropical storm outside and the room was packed with the freakiest crowd. I've tried hard to immortalize that feeling on this record."

With the intended energy in mind, Zopelar focused on a particular mode of production centred around 12-bit sampling from his ample record collection.

Considering his background as a trained pianist, here his musical instincts are forced to work within the limitations of short, snappy cuts from dusty 12”s. The lo-fi sound sources and the resourceful ways Zopelar works them gives the record an unmistakable old-skool flavour which he applies to forthright house, techno and electro funk rhythms, always taking care to draw out the soul of the music.

The stylistic touchstones flow past thick and fast on Ritmo Freak. From the amped up fierceness of the title track with its gaudy, cut n’ paste, vintage techno flavour to the effervescent electro funk of ‘Gabriellinha’s Boogie’ on to the surreal Balearic inversion of ‘Distraction’, this is a high-velocity, endlessly charming record bursting with the musicality Zopelar has made his name on.

As the driving force behind many warehouse parties in São Paulo, Zopelar has been immersed in club culture for a long time, and his distinctive catalogue of jazz, funk, acid and techno has graced highly respected labels like Apron, Selva Discos and Mother Tongue. Throughout, he’s displayed an affinity for the tangled roots of the groove with an open-eared, big-hearted sound. That’s what comes through on Ritmo Freak — a record as infectious as it is well- informed.

The ‘Last Forever’ EP by Sylvio B on Major Records, also known as Majorettes, kicks off with the title track. It introduces the release with an introspective and sultry vocal, sung by Robert Owens over a low-slung house groove in a gorgeous tribute to the Chicago sound. Next up on the release is ‘My Story’, a vintage track at heart with a modern soul. Owens’ vocals once again add great flair to its earworm melody and groove.

‘It’s Like’ on Sylvio B’s ‘Last Forever’ is a dancefloor bomb built for the floor, complete with hypnotic arpeggios and tasty acid drips. This is before The Netherlands’ Lupe remixes ‘Last Forever’, amping up its drums and adding a playful and infectious bassline while reworking Robert’s vocal arrangement for the club.

Having come up via the queer music community of Hamburg, French artist Sylvio B, now based in Paris, has built a name for himself across Europe playing line-ups at Thuishaven, Dalston Superstore, Macadam, and many more. With previous releases on the likes of Nervous and Street Tracks, Melbourne's Jwalker is fast becoming a very dependable name for house thumpers. Returning to local label Refuge Recordings, he serves up another two weapons. 'Bad News' fuses juggernaut bass with classic '90s house beats, ravey stab samples and Detroit flavoured strings to make for one serious workout, while 'What U Put Me Through' takes an almost dub-style approach to its undulating low end and tense organ notes, veering towards the UKG side of things with cheeky spinbacks and sorrowful, soulful vocal samples.

Craft Music's Good For Dance series continues with its second instalment and this one has been curated by none other than DJ Craft himself. Joining him are talented pals Schmoltz, Bogdan Ra, Romain FX, and Outra, also known as Joutro Mundo. These deep diggers are celebrated for their prowess in unearthing hidden gems and transforming them into dancefloor anthems and that's what they do here as each artist brings a unique flavour to the mix. Schmoltz's 'Luv The States' is a peak-time percussive disco jam, Bogdan Ra brings some slap-funk drums and glossy Italo synths and 'Tell Me Why' has crunchy drums and jagged synth stabs before a camp closer in 'Colosso'.
