Deadbeat and Om Unit combine forces to explore their shared love of dubbed-out electronics.

Starting a thread from Montreal to Bristol, this mini LP is rooted in the tradition of dub and techno, but with tinges of roots and acid as well as the etheric ambience they are both known for.

Root, Stalk, Leaf and Bloom is contemplative but heartfelt, with a sense of momentum and positive purpose.

"With great pleasure, we introduce our first international collaboration: hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, 23-year-old producer Vilhelm has blessed us with 3 gorgeous club tracks on his ‘Extend’ EP.

Pulling from the broken, ethereal productions of the mid-late 90’s, Vilhelm’s work refracts a timeless sound through a modernist lens. With a lavishly reverberant sonic palette, the Swedish producer’s Canapé debut observes a playful contrast between sparsity and complexity—a theme that is explored with compelling urgency across the EP’s length. Carried by dynamic passages of sub and break, Vilhelm’s ability to convey feeling within a club-ready track is second-to-none.

Alongside production and DJ-ing pursuits, Vilhelm also runs Villa Records with his younger brother Einar Hasselgren. Established in 2020, the label champions the jungle, drum & bass and dubstep community blossoming on Sweden’s SW Coast.

💿 Lost Dubs 013 – Something to Rewind (2010)

In 2010, I was working quietly alone in my headphones, in a “studio” that was really just a closet in a windowless room. There was no face-to-face connection with any kind of community. That solitude completely changed what I was making — and who I was making it for.

I was trying to get a baby to sleep. We shared a wall with a shift worker who would pound on the wall to “soothe” our screaming baby. So aside from that one time I played my partner “this really chill Burial track you just have to hear,” bass music was mostly kept to a minimum.

Something to Rewind is a chill tune — just drums, bass, and me playing chords on my M-Audio Oxygen 8 keyboard (which I still have). The only vocal sample quietly says, “Listen up.”

I’ve never pretended to be an emcee, and sadly most of my hip hop productions were lost when a hard drive died. But this track feels like it could use the blessing of a proper emcee — someone who understands what it means to make something in the quiet, and hope it’s heard.
