Having released popular Drum & Bass music since 1997, on leading labels such as Renegade, Partisan, 720 degrees, and Good Looking Records, Future Engineers finally launch their own brand new imprint Transference Recordings. It is designed to become a regular outlet - via digital download stores - for top quality and forward-thinking, deep D&B music.

The label sets off on a very strong foot with Future Engineers delivering the superb Ellipse EP – a refreshingly diverse collection of deeper D&B tracks from the top drawer.

The EP’s title track ‘Ellipse’ is a tech-fuelled, aggressive roller that quickly builds to shake the dance floor, with punchy bass notes and a solid sub line forging a funky groove with the high-octane beats and fascinating surround sounds. 

‘Side-Effects’ is depth charged and reminiscent of the classic Logistics vibe, whilst staying true to the distinctive Future Engineers sound. As the beats gather momentum, a thought-provoking vocal speech leads us into a liquid D&B drop – this is rave music with an intelligent, soulful twist!

The third track of the EP is ‘Through the Motions’, a simple yet effective piece of music that brings together a minimal break, beautiful melancholy piano chords and riffs, and a poignant bass line, to create a truly infectious hook. 

Last, but certainly not least, is ‘Sensory Disorientation’. Clearly intended for dance floor detonation, a robotic, space age intro quickly evolves into a conjunction of technological bass sounds and heavyweight beats to create a veritable blitz of futuristic funk.

Out 12th May, the second in the Archipelago Remixes EP series brings more stunning new versions of tracks from Hidden Orchestra’s second album, ‘Archipelago’. Established and rising stars - Dam Mantle, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Floex, submerse and KRTS – work their magic on producer and band-leader Joe Acheson’s original productions, across two 10” records in a hand-stamped and numbered sleeve, limited to 500 units worldwide.

Opening the first 10” is “Seven Hunters (Dam Mantle Mix)”, which brings a noir-ish intensity to the original, a firm fan favourite. The Glasgow based Notown/Wichita signed producer re-programmes the original drums, creating a sense of space and suspense, and eliciting admiration from Acheson, whose heavily layered organic beats are an integral part of the stirring Hidden Orchestra sound, even requiring two kits in the live show: “it's the kind of way I treat drum recordings in my own work, so it's really nice to hear it done to my drum tracks”.

“Flight (Mungo's Hi Fi Remix)” sees an eagerly awaited hook-up with the Scottish crew, of whom Acheson has long been a fan, having partied at - and played on - Mungos’ legendary soundsystem at Knockengorroch Festival. Here they transform the intricate, folk-influenced “Flight” (which boasts almost a million soundcloud plays) for a bass-heavy dub dancefloor, while skilfully retaining snapshots of the original orchestration and atmosphere. 

“Disquiet (Floex Remix)” finds Floex returning the favour for a Hidden Orchestra mix of his own latest single. This charged, hypnotic version shows the dancier, more electronic side of the Czech clarinettist and producer’s work; twisting and heightening existing sounds, not least the heavenly harp solo, for an epic effect. Floex’s second official Hidden Orchestra remix, this adds to a growing list of joint ventures from these two like-minded creators. 

Two artists from Berlin’s Project Mooncircle label - London based submerse, and Brooklyn’s KRTS (the latter with a  bonus digital cut) – remix “Spoken”, each ramping up the strikingly percussive intro and spiralling down a different yet equally fascinating experimental electronic bass music path.

‘Little Letters’, released 3rd March 2013 is the first single from Paper Aeroplanes second album by the same name. One of the UK's most acclaimed up-and-coming groups, the Welsh duo - Sarah Howells and Richard Llewellyn - have been making serious waves around the UK, touring constantly since getting together in 2009.

Last year alone they played over one hundred dates, selling out venues across the UK and performing at a host of prominent music festivals. The long-awaited new album is their first release on the Navigator label. 

Their emotionally charged music and heartbreaking vocals have already gained Paper Aeroplanes some impressive fans in the media world.

“Intimate, jaunty and confident low-key pop with great melody” is how The Guardian describes their music, while radio support has come from 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, Cerys Matthews, Chris Hawkins and Lauren Laverne and Radio 2’s Bob Harris. Radio Wales are also big supporters of the duo, helping cement their burgeoning reputation in the principality.

Musically, Sarah and Richard are inspired by the likes of Laura Veirs, Bjork, Jeff Buckley, Gillian Welch, Everything but the Girl and Lucinda Williams. ‘Little Letters’ is a step away from their previous two albums, with more of a full band feel that nevertheless maintains the duo’s talent for catchy, atmospheric, folk-tinged songs. Their compositions are picturesque stories, inspired by their rural upbringing and the emotional extremes of past loves and friendships.

"Whether it's a good or bad memory, I think it's an important process to capture those thoughts and keep them in a songlike bubble, making room for new experiences," she remarks. "The title ‘Little Letters’ has a few different meanings for us, but I think it generally reflects the way we communicate these days - life and love in 140 characters: Texts, status updates, tweets, post-it notes, I love yous…"

Paper Aeroplanes’ album provides an intimate yet far reaching soundtrack to the duo's lives; each song a ‘little letter’ full of meaningful recollections and poignant personal moments. The result is a set of songs that are honest and raw, yet crammed with melodies that resonate in your head long after the record's finished.

Jason Lancaster (aka j:logic) is a drum n bass producer/dj from Longview, Texas.  He started playing drums/percussion at an early age and has never let up.  He studied music in school all the way through college, including percussion, piano, and musci theory.  He is influenced by jazz, funk, r & b, hip-hop, and soul.  After being introduced to electronic music  in  the late 1990's, he took up the art of djing and fell in love breakbeats and rolling basslines of drum n bass.  in 2011, he decided to give music production a try.Exclusive to drum n bass at the moment, who knows what the future will bring.
