Known to some as Smop, she's a Naarm-based (Melbourne AU) DJ and producer who fuses psy-tech, experimental drum and bass, broken beats, and bass-heavy grooves into something that hits deep and weird in all the right ways. With over 15 years on the decks, her sets are layered with hypnotic grooves, twisted acid lines, and a cinematic edge that pulls you in and spits you out in another dimension.

She's no stranger to the underground circuit, having played twisted bush missions like Twisted Frequency (NZ), Earthcore, Chakra Gathering, Bluebell Festival, and Antigravity, alongside regular slots at Naarm staples like My Aeon and Revolver. Her name's been on lineups for crews like Techgnosis Records, Sonic Sacraments, Universal Tribe, Bush Techno, Astralien Tech, and Eclectic Tribe. Back in 2022, she dropped a set for Newy Bass Crew on the Cabin Fever Sessions on Orbital Radio - raw and proper.

Her sets are a trip - rolling basslines, acid squelch, deep atmosphere, and a cheeky kind of chaos that keeps you locked in. If you're into unconventional sounds that bend the rules and flip your brain sideways, Kharma's the one.

Future Engineers stride onward with their latest release, the All Inside EP, out now on Transference. This marks the duo’s first EP in 23 years, following their acclaimed Technetium EP on Good Looking Records in 2002.

‘Time and Place’

On the wind-swept cliffs where the sky bruises into dusk, angelic whispers drift like forgotten hymns, weaving through the salt-heavy air. Below, waves shatter against the ancient rocks, their thunder a chorus to the murmured prayers of the sea. Across the wide, breathless grasslands, the ghosts of lost souls glide in silence, their presence felt more than seen, a chill in the breeze, a shimmer in the fading light, as if this ‘Time and Place’ remembers every story ever wept into its soil.

Om Unit - Stranger In The Mirror [Premiere]

Tonight on Lost In Bass we feature two artists who continue to shape and elevate Ottawa’s underground community. We begin with a deep, emotional, and atmospheric set from MARÉVA, an Ottawa-based DJ and event organizer known for blending dark melodies, intricate drum work, and haunting vocals into bass-driven journeys that resonate on a physical and emotional level. Influenced by years spent across multiple continents and early immersion in Moscow’s D&B scene, her sound reflects a wide musical palette and a commitment to the deeper side of electronic music.

We then move into a mix from DAN MEDLAND, a DJ with nearly 30 years of history in the House Music world. Originally from Ottawa and shaped by the legendary late-90s underground, from SONA, ARIA, and Stereo in Montreal to Industry and The Guvernment in Toronto.  Dan learned his craft under Ottawa icons Neill MacLeod and Joe Juarez. His style is rooted in storytelling, rhythm, and a blend of house, tech, and tribal energy that consistently moves dance floors.

Future Engineers have been producing drum & bass since 1996, with releases on labels such as LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records, Blame’s 720 Degrees, Renegade, Partisan, and Vibez.

Transference was launched by Lee in 2010, kicking off with the Future Engineers ‘Ellipse’ EP. The label was established for Lee’s solo material as Future Engineers, but evolved to include various other projects with the likes of Electrosoul System, Sunchase, Operon, Cutworks, Radicall, Dauntless and Fuj.
