"I dreamt that I was in an oceanside bunker rave. Everything was surrounded by a silver swamp. A slidy, iridescent slick of mud led into the choppy, steely waters. With my best pal Katie we go on an extracurricular to steal cutlery from a nearby canteen. It made me think of times of unproductiveness. Failed time, liquefied time. 
That image stayed with me and so I wanted to recreate the soundtrack for the side mission Katie and I were on that night. Eighteen tracks from friends, acquaintances, people I respect and who inspire me. I guess I spent the last three years making sense of the fact that I no longer live on the islands. I think that I occasionally look back and pine for that silvery swampiness, the surrealism, the harshness, the softness, the many friendships. I miss my pal, so this music is for her. Hope we can go to a rave again soon."

Cucina Povera is the solo recording project of Finnish-Luxembourgish, ex-Glasgow and now Amsterdam-based artist Maria Rossi. Gleaning sound worlds from mostly mundane things and haunted effects, Rossi makes work around the dual notion of precarity and nourishment.
