Schrikbarend was born in 1985 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. This time no story about any extraordinary interest in music from a young age here. Only the recording of some popular radio songs on tape. No musical parents with major influences, just a dad who can play the same record over and over, until everybody in the house has had enough.
During high school, by sheer coincidence a crappy turntable was bought, which needed some vinyl to go with it. Not soon after, a mixer and a second turntable joined the setup, and the 12” kept on coming. The records started out as trance records, becoming deeper and more progressive along the way. By the end of high school, a decent set of records was collected, and appearances at small parties in and around Nijmegen were a fact.
When college time began in Utrecht, music was not always first choice. However last summer, when visiting a large techno party in Amsterdam, the urge to spin records got in a rapid again and the search for new and interesting records was continued. Nowadays the focus of Schrikbarends dj-sets is on the deep and melodic aspects of techno music.
