Pure silence covered the whole house. You could hear your own breathing from wall to wall. And darkness was my friend. Shadows were everywhere to be seen, they chased you. All I could do was run, behind my guide. We both felt it coming, but we never said a word. From door to door there was nothing but black illusions. Tension was everywhere though, but the kind that you felt in your bones. And I for sure did not want to get caught in the act. The followers were getting near. There's no place to hide now.

My friend James Allen and I have a bimonthly night at the Charleston here in Chicago- mostly just freeform stuff!

Advice for the DJs, artists and producers of our community: Spend time finding/making music that speaks to your heart and develop a sound that feels unique and true to you. Don't let anyone define your sound for you. Practice practice practice. Record yourself every time you practice and listen back. Collaborate as much as you can.

@mirella-kroes’ presence in the Dutch techno scene is unmistakeable. Growing up on a diet of the tough, loop-oriented techno characteristic of the north of Holland where she was born, Kroes moved to Amsterdam as her musical horizons began to expand. Having cut her DJ teeth at iconic clubs such as Doornroosje, Trouw, Studio 80 and Cruquiusgilde, she now enjoys exploring musically deep, trippy soundscapes and organically building narratives that use space to upset conventional club rubrics.

Delving into ambient, breaks, electronica, experimental and IDM, her Patterns of Perception 59 perfectly manifests these qualities: a sonically diverse, luminescent mix best suited to private spaces, long journeys, and far-away places.
