2014 stands as a defining moment for the RAM Records imprint. Not only did it announce the pivotal signing of artists like Audio, Teddy Killerz and Bensley but they also oversaw the birth of compilation series RAMLife hosted by Loadstar. Even in its first form, it contained nearly every essential release the last twelve months had to offer. 

But this year, RAMLife is taking you into deeper and murkier dimensions. Having already flexed his production muscle on the ricocheting, four-track ‘Nil by Mouth’ EP, as well as his first visual debut in the music video for ‘Heads Up’, it’s now time for Audio to cut open and expose his musical psyche. 

Including some of the most aggressive, technically adept and prominent artists the genre has to offer, including Bad Company, Optiv & BTK and Noisia to name a few, no stone goes unturned for the album’s entirety. The brand new cut ‘Foodchain’ from Audio sets a theme which is prevalent throughout all 27 tracks. Regulars at the world renowned Czech drum & bass festival Let It Roll and followers of Phace & Misanthrop’s agenda-setting imprint NeoSignal will need no introduction… This 19-year-old’s pedigree has been established for several years. Nominated for Best Newcomer at last year’s Drum&BassArena Awards, his reputation is developing serious with every release. Naturally both of these tracks showcase just why he’s enjoying such widespread scene-acclaim. 
‘Diverted’ is all about the tease. Igniting with an eerie, iced-out intro we’re soon hurtled into a rising bass hook that spirals up and up and up demonically with a mischievous sense of paranoia. Rich in chest-press kicks and warm, glock-popping snares, there’s a strong sense of timelessness that will befit D&B DJs of any sub-genre.
‘Simple’ defies its title in every possible way… Comprising a lean, sinewy bass riff and precision punctuated drums, the devil is coded into every single detail as A-Cray invites you to switch and shock-out in equal measure to his sharp, steppy lesson in restraint.

Deep in solitary lockdown, Hamilton has been crafting these next cuts with the meticulous precision. These two tracks present the perfect backdrop for his comeback, presenting him as a veteran artist who effortlessly combines the famed 90s vibe with contemporary production. 

And after the ongoing success of his Schema EP, as well as the huge reception to his release ‘Fire/Be There’, this is a welcome return. 

With pent up aggression and pounding breaks, ‘Feel the Fury’ rolls out first ominously. Cracking high hats and quick-fire percussion adds a layering that helps carry the record’s forward motion. Alongside a bassline that coils, and then lashes out over a plunging drop, you’re thrown between the snap, crack and whip of a hugely intricate composition. Hamilton is back… And he’s here to re-educate you with his unfaltering skillset. 

On the flipside, ‘Track 8’ is an innovative slice of drum & bass which is both fun and drivingly relentless. Bouncing subs, coupled by distorted synths take you through elevated note patterns of gradually building, musical imagery. It’s a steppy riddim, one which doesn’t completely crash on impact but instead is creeping in its intensity. It’s Hamilton at his most diverse, yet again proving the versatility in his craftwork.

With another stunning delivery from Hamilton, 2015 is setting a precedent. One which the producer is sure to ride out into the future.

Following the huge success of his debut album ‘Caligo’, Spor has hooked up with powerhouse producer Memtrix to present ‘Memtrix & Spor: Darkest Hours’ forthcoming on Sotto Voce/Lifted Music. The track will be released on 14th September.

‘Darkest Hours’ begins with a stream of deep cinematic melodies progressing into a melting pot of cutting-edge bass sonics and crisp drum grooves; accompanied by ambient vocals. With over 1 million views on his track ‘All You Are’ on YouTube and over 5 releases under his belt at the age of 19, this is the start of a long journey in the world of drum & bass for Memtrix. "Working with Spor has definitely been an eye opening and insightful experience,” he says, “but I think more than that it's just been really fun. It always seems really natural and fluent in the studio and we bounce ideas off each other really well I think. Obviously it's an absolute privilege for me to work with such a household name who's work I respect so much, and this release is something I'm really proud of and excited about."
