"I can't fake being alive" - Dolor, Midnight.

Lewis James returns to Original Cultures with Desire for Infinity, his second EP for the label following from Krakatoa earlier this year which received support from dance music luminaries including DJ Shadow, Sinistarr, Dawn Day Night, Om Unit and Kidkanevil.

The creative road to Desire for Infinity has not been easy, with the EP undergoing multiple rewrites and changes yet after all was said and done it became clear that this new collection of songs is arguably Lewis James’ best work so far. The seven tracks that make up Desire for Infinity may seem disparate at first but there is an underlying unity that soon becomes apparent, a clear desire from the producer to break on through to the other side.

Opener Space Banquet is a gentle offering, a slow jam for digital lovers that leads us into Her Jewels, a track that delicately unfolds towards an epic crescendo, a sonic tale of reaching for the stars. On Midnight, Lewis rekindles the magic that made Powerchild a highlight of his previous EP by once more inviting Dolor on vocal duties. This time around the young American prodigy takes the guise of a dark and mysterious crooner, turning an inspired ode to late night romance and soul searching over a production that is as sensuous as the lyrics. Whole marks the half-way point of the EP and a sharp turn from an introspective quality to the music towards a no-holds-barred dancefloor mindset. Lewis shows his talent for crafting catchy productions that lie somewhere between rave and hip hop. Worse for its part packs more weight and attitude than the entire current trap trend ever could while the EP’s closer, All or Nothing, takes Bollywood for a ride in South London, gun cocked and all.

The release is rounded off by two remixes from young Irish talent SertOne and London's LV, two artists currently involved with Original Cultures. Available in digital format with artwork from Paper Resistance.

Rome in Reverse, the solo project of the Italian-born, Copenhagen-based artist Antonella Pacifico, made its debut in 2014 and quickly found its niche within the crowded electronic music scene. Following the release of her first full-length album Loop and Reverse in 2015, Pacifico caught the attention of the Luxembourg-based producer Victor Ferreira aka Sun Glitters, resulting in ongoing collaborations between the two artists. 2016 saw two releases, both produced by Ferreira—Northern Lights EP and Sun in Reverse split EP—accompanied by a European tour with Arms and Sleepers & Sun Glitters. In 2018, Pacifico released her second full-length album The Prestige, also produced by Ferreira, and made an appearance at Aarhus Recession Festival.

With her roots in southern Italy and Tuscany—and her formative years spent in Rome—Pacifico is a self-taught musician and producer, having played in a post-rock outfit before relocating to Denmark to focus on solo music production. The environment that Pacifico has carved out with Rome in Reverse is a melted collection of club dance music, blissed-out trance-techno, ambient dub, and dreamy trip-hop sounds driven by up/downtempo electronic beats and occasionally accompanied by her emotive vocals. Her latest work, the single Oklahoma, appeared on the Future Archive: Volume 1 compilation in Sept. 2018. Her new album, titled 'We've Been Here', will be released on March 29 via Future Archive Recordings.

The acclaimed Luxembourg-based producer Victor Ferreira (aka Sun Glitters) returns with a new full-length album 'LO-FI-LO-VE' this fall, a follow-up to his 2017 retro-futuristic visual album It Will Be Forever.

Since arriving in 2011—at the crest of an era overflowing with blissful synth projects—Ferreira has earned a loyal following through consistent output, collaboration, worldwide tours, and festival appearances. With remixes for Purity Ring, Slow Magic, Blue Foundation and numerous others, and live support for the likes of Moderat, Son Lux and Gold Panda, Ferreira has quickly left a mark on the electronic music scene. Over the years, he has received glowing coverage from Dazed & Confused, BBC, Resident Advisor, Earmilk, XLR8R, Pitchfork, The Guardian, VICE, and a bevy of other trend setting music outlets.

'LO-FI-LO-VE' sees Ferreira taking another new creative step in his career as a music producer, video director, and graphic design artist. All three are essential to Sun Glitters’ raison d’être, and with 'LO-FI-LO-VE', Ferreira is once again pushing his artistic curiosity to the limit. Unbothered by the prospect of change, Ferreira urges his listeners and viewers to keep an open mind and shift focus. While It Will Be Forever offered a closer look into the remarkable and unremarkable everyday moments—along with a subtle existential message underneath the accompanying music and videos—'LO-FI-LO-VE' sends a heartfelt and emotive pulse directly into the soul. From start to finish, Ferreira manages to arouse those most human of emotions on his new album: joy, pain, remembering, forgetting, loss, and of course, love. The 13 tracks on 'LO-FI-LO-VE' are an exploration of these feelings; they are gentle and ethereal, but also focused and honest. There is no pretense here, especially that everything is always fine. It is not. As the track 6 title suggests, It’s Almost Perfectly — almost, but not quite. The soul’s journey is as bleak as it is beautiful, and for 47 minutes, 'LO-FI-LO-VE' attempts to capture that enigmatic energy.

'LANDLOPER' is Little People’s first release since 2015, where he returns with an album that is both beautiful and complex – much like the journey it took to release it.

In 2014, Laurent Clerc – aka Little People – decided to move to Portland, OR to allow himself to concentrate on writing new music. Laurent spent a fruitful year in Oregon, drawing inspiration from the wild beauty of the Pacific North West. Shortly after his move, a new EP and a successful 6-week North American tour opening for Odesza followed. It’s around this time that the first sketches of 'LANDLOPER' started to take shape.

For Laurent making music is all about the process – each sound used on his latest album were created with a technical idea in mind. Either with a modular synthesizer or using digital means, Laurent draws inspiration from the set of tools at his disposal. Electronic music is a giant playground to explore and tinker with. The new album has a warmth and lofi aesthetic that is at odds with Laurent’s meticulous nature – but everything has been crafted to be deliberately just so. Constantly looking to add imperfections to beautiful sounds – rendering them more abrasive and alive. There are contrasts between the lush string quartet arrangements and off kilter angular beats, with subtle details in each track which co-exist alongside broader melodic themes. The music on 'LANDLOPER' travels through a number of sonic palettes, borrowing elements from different sub-genres to eventually form a cohesive whole.

Laurent worked with a number of collaborators this time round – expanding beyond just instrumental works. Whilst in Portland he worked with Reva Devito (HW&W Recordings) whose vocals were chopped and re-purposed – providing a vocal thread throughout the whole album. Laurent also collaborated with Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne (Hejira, Matthew Herbert, Floating Points) making up three key songs on the album. The lead single track Skies Turn Blue which features Tif Lamson (GIVERS) was an effortless collaboration between 2 very different artists.

For the Boston-based artist Andrew G Nault, drab started out as more of a concept; broad strokes of a particular mood to convey sonically. “There’s beauty in the less favorable moments in life,” explains Nault. “Musically my ear has always leaned in that direction. Chalk it up to a small brush with death at a young age, I guess.” Indeed, there is much to be learned from life’s darker moments, and plenty of layers to shed along the way to do so. This is the context that drab operates in. Layered compositions of haze, feel, and movement that shift and progress with subtlety. 

Though a newcomer to electronic music production, Nault is a long time student of music in general. With well over a decade of experience as a producer, engineer, and musician, there’s not much he hasn’t tried. Stylistically unafraid, his credits stretch across a multitude of genres. From Folk to Doom to R&B and more, each venture has left a lasting impression on the next. “drab is another chance for me to challenge myself and explore… a melting pot to throw all of these styles and experiences into and see what comes out,” writes Nault. With the upcoming release of his debut EP, Nault again sets his wheels in motion, continuing to dive deeper into his unconventional combination of influences and an ear for the bittersweet.

Future Archive Recordings is extremely proud and excited to present new material from Blockhead. The internationally renowned NYC producer has released 10 albums over the past 15 years, including four acclaimed records for Ninja Tune and numerous production jobs including notable works with Aesop Rock. He is regarded as one of the modern masters of instrumental hip-hop, and the forthcoming new album sees him return to record-label-released music with the bold and exciting roster at Future Archive Recordings (co-founded by artists Arms and Sleepers, Sun Glitters, Little People and CNJR, and also co-run by Mark McGlinchey).

BUBBLE BATH is a record born out of meditative expression and ongoing personal creative challenge, key for a producer of Blockhead’s experience. Carried forward are the incredible hook and sample placement skills of classic works such as Uncle Tony’s Coloring Book and Music By Cavelight, but what has emerged is an overwhelming sense of natural musicality and sophistication.

“I want the music I make to be unaffected by outside influences. I like the idea of working in a bubble… When I have to describe what I do, to someone, it’s always a little awkward because it starts as “I’m a musician” and as questions come back it gets broken down. “No, I don’t play any instruments” “No, I’m not trained in musical theory” “I make beats”. When it comes down to it, everything I do has always been guided by my ears and sensibility.”

New LP opening track and lead single On The Bright Side is a stunning, woozy and dreamlike slab of instrumental hip-hop. This first song galvanises Blockhead’s ethos toward instrumental music: “The reason I never got into instrumental music is because I find it monotonous. My goal has been to avoid that. It’s hard to attach truly personal things to instrumental music because, generally, those feelings are expressed in words. So, I have to kinda put forth moods and leave the rest up to the listener.”

‘Give Me This’ is the new single from the electronic music duo Max Lewis and Mirza Ramic, aka Arms and Sleepers. The duo has been actively releasing music since forming in Boston, Massachusetts back in 2006. Their sound has spanned electronic, trip-hop, ambient, and hip-hop genres, among others. With several dozen releases and extensive worldwide touring under their belt, the duo is now gearing up for what looks to be their most serious musical undertaking yet: a six-part music release to be made available throughout 2020.

‘Give Me This’ is the first taste of what's to come next year. Taken from the first of six upcoming releases, the single is a confident opening statement that combines elements of the older, more melancholic Arms and Sleepers sound with the heavier electronic music leanings of the last full-length album ‘Find The Right Place’. Writes Ramic, "As with some of my favorite songs that we've written over the years, this track came together pretty quickly. I came across this vocal sample while looking through some old files on our music hard drive. It resonated with me immediately, and I decided to stay up all night and make something out of it. The result in the early morning hours was a first draft of 'Give Me This', which I then sent over to our pal Sun Glitters to polish."

The Luxembourg-based music producer @SunGlitters has once again been tasked with mixing and co-producing the new Arms and Sleepers material. He's been a frequent collaborator since 2016, and the two artists—along with Little People and CNJR—also came together last year to start their own record label Future Archive Recordings. The forthcoming Arms and Sleepers album will be the artist's first full-length release on the new label.

‘Give Me This’ is a simple yet infectious instrumental track that commands close attention during its three minute running time. Combining synthetic drum sounds with a warm vocal sample and adding heavy bass and synths on top, Arms and Sleepers manages to put together a piece of music that is both energetic and introspective. Ramic explains, "I view this as a more aggressive track for us, and one that gets to the point very quickly. For me, this song is about freely and often irresponsibly satisfying our carnal human desires, especially at a younger age when most of us might feel invincible. But as we get older, things change, our health deteriorates, and second chances are not an option. It's this sentiment behind a journey from careless youth decision-making to brutal adult realities that I wanted to somehow capture in the song."

Arms and Sleepers will release their ninth studio album, titled ‘Safe Area Earth’, on January 17, 2020 via Future Archive Recordings. The 1st single ‘Give Me This’ is out on September 13, 2019.

Future Archive Recordings is excited to bring this long anticipated follow up to 2015’s Tiny Pause. Having just returned home after a successful European tour with fellow Future Archive Recordings’ artists Blockhead and Arms and Sleepers, Joe Corrales Jr – aka Yppah – is straight back to it with the brand-new single Shot Into The Sun and the announcement of a brand new album Sunset in the Deep End. Yppah’s ever growing penchant for fusing alternative, shoegaze and indie guitar textures to crisp hip-hop beats has seen his work used in high profile TV syncs such as CSI and House as well as video games such as Alone In The Dark.

Shot Into The Sun is another example of this, utilizing shimmering dream pop guitar lines a-la The XX or Interpol with the dub-roll rhythms of classic 90s groups like Massive Attack and Portishead. It is perfect cinematic territory, with emotive bass-pad providing deep, far stretching beds for all the delay and reverb on those high frequencies to carry you away into a dream.

Recording so many instruments live and on his own, Yppah manages to connect with his listeners more than his peers; there’s a real sense of conversation; he’s in the room with you, not detached, like so many sample-based producers. This is organic, deep and personal late-night music from a master of the craft.

This is a vital point in Yppah’s career and narrative. Making the move from Ninja Tune and Counter Records to the new imprint Future Archive Recordings comes at a pivotal point in his private life. With relationships ending and new beginnings abound, he took four years with over 60 sketches and demos before picking the final ten cuts that would form the new album – a signifier that Yppah’s path is wide open and possibilities are all around him. A new creative energy seems to have infected the record, connecting to the world of Future Archive Recordings and the tight-knit artist community they have fostered. With other key Ninja Tune alumni Blockhead – as well as the label-founding members Arms and Sleepers, Sun Glitters, Little People, and CNJR – Yppah now has a stable to let loose from once again. With North American and European tours in support of the new record, 2020 is set to be his biggest year yet.
