Quantum Entanglement is one of the strangest phenomena in the Universe, overcoming barriers of space and time and knitting the entire cosmos into an integrated whole.

Fin Greenall (Fink, Sideshow) and myself Lee Jones (Hefner, MyMy) met at college in the early nineties and played a lot of chess to the soundtrack of Aphex Twin and Future Sound of London. Fin taught me the guitar. I taught Fin Cubase. We shared our first releases together as EVA on Kickin' Records, then Ninja Tune. I started a band, Hefner, while Fin was mainly a DJ. Then we switched. Fin became a singer-songwriter, I moved to Berlin and formed MyMy with Nick Höppner, then started to DJ.

We followed our own paths which have often crossed, remixing each other's music, helping each other with our writing, and releasing on Aus Music (which Fin started with Will Saul), but we've always wanted to really collaborate again.

Between my studio in Berlin, Fin's studio in Brighton, and various studios, hotels and airports around the world, that project has finally taken the shape of Quantum Entanglement. Two separate worlds linked by friendship and a feeling that goes back to those early days of ambient, dub, chess and incense, now made possible by the internet. Files, old tracks, samples and words are flying back and forth, eventually forming 2 versions of a song. Heads and Tails. Question and Response. Move and Counter-Move. The game has begun.

Quantum Entanglement - The Effects Can Last Forever (Heads)

Fuse sub-label Infuse drops the ‘Dirtdrive’ EP by Einzelkind this January, opening 2014 for the imprint with a heavy hitting two-tracker.

Einzelkind has been a driving force in the world of underground house music for nearly a decade, rising to fame through releases on Get Physical, Playhouse, Mule Electronic, Cocoon and WHITE as well as the infamous La Peña and Pressure Trax (run with Frost) imprints. Here Einzelkind joins the Infuse roster, once again bringing up-front dance floor focused grooves, following on from a string of various artist releases that kick started the label.

Title track ‘Dirtdrive’ is up first, a subtly evolving, ethereal number fuelled by cavernous atmospheres, a vigorous tom-driven rhythm and an amalgamation of processed spoken word vocal licks. While the latter stages introduce an infectious resonant bass hook to further stimulate the heady, mind-bending feel of the record.

Then on the flip side we have ‘Bless’ which tips the focus towards direct 4/4 percussion, rumbling sub bass, crowd recordings, Latin speech and jazzy piano rolls. Creating another piece instilled with the distinctive Einzelkind sound, nodding to the La Peña productions and embodying a chuggy insistent groove for the peak-time hours.

Fresh from the success of the Guilty Pleasures EP by Satin Jackets & Ejeca, next up from the ever growing House of Disco Records is Finnebassen's - ’Baby’ EP. Boasting make overs from Monitor 66, Ron Basejam and Debonair along with the original track itself, this is a vinyl with credentials that speak for themselves. 

The EP opens with the original track 'Baby' from the Norwegian born producer Finnebassen. With previous releases titled ’Babies’ ’Footsteps’ and ’Bleedin out’ I'm starting to wonder if there's some sort of subliminal message at work. However with the rate at which he's been outputting releases lately there are no signs that he has anything other than more music on the way. ’Baby’ is not what we have become accustomed to expecting from Finnebassen, it strays away from his usual deep poignant echoing house tracks. Instead it's a rich funk filled gem of a track that he's shown he is capable of through his ’silly pilly edit’ of It's gonna take a long time. With bluesy lead guitar riffs and his trademark bass line it's the perfect soundtrack for a blossoming summer season.

The first remix of the EP comes from Swedish trio Monitor 66 who produce under the ethos of creating ’'music for sunsets.’ The track certainly embodies that motif as gorgeous saxophone licks and chiming synths over a shifting bassline give it a deep tropical feel. Next up is the remix from James Baron, or as the anagram works and we know him as, Ron Basejam. His remix is more of a straight up boogie house track letting the echoing vocals do a lot of the work whilst being complimented by sprinkles of playful keys. The sliced vocals work a treat and he manages to maintain the tracks strong groove throughout. The final remix of the EP comes from London based artist Debonair who strips down the track into a deep atmospheric affair making it the perfect weapon of choice for an after hour set. Ominous kicks and the spades of tension and atmosphere will make sure that fists are pumping well into the early hours of the morning.
