Having already earned his Balearic stripes some time ago, as one of the resident DJs at We Love…. At Space in Ibiza, Ian Blevins has since relocated to Berlin, and has been immersing himself in the esoteric vibes of the city.  On the strength of his latest EP on Futureboogie, this is clearly a good thing, as the ‘Round Trip’ EP is laden with the deep magical vibes that have also shaped his recent releases on labels like Banoffe Pies, Not An Animal Records, Blind Jacks Journey and ESP Institute. 

On ‘Round Trip’, an abundance of driving, arpeggiated synthesizers weave around sparse yet sturdy drumbeats, as thick pads rise and fall in dramatic fashion.  Panthera Krause (Permanent Vacation/Riotvan/Lobster Theremin) is on board for the remix of ‘Round Trip’, re-shaping the original into a merry, space organ led, tribal dance; with a splash of garage house vibes that soon become immersed in its own synth heaven, it’s a cracking remix from the Leipzig based producer.

On ‘Roland’s Rat’, Blevins keeps things tight with soaring strings, organ stabs a strolling bassline for a quality jam, whilst ‘Can You Count My Dream?’ is a dense, and cinematic slab of transcendental dance, an almost claustrophobic atmosphere only intensifies the drama and delivers the heat that seals this superb EP from Blevins.

Swedish production duo Bambook are hitting a rich vein of creative form with their second release for Culprit: ‘The Storm’.
 
Since their debut for the label last summer - ‘Hearts & Roads’ – Bambook have been on a streak of releases and remixes for notable imprints like Kindisch, Noir, Fayer and Jeudi. Clearly inspired, the duo of Eiad Sayegh and Hannes Netzell has managed to balance the volume of their musical output with tight quality control.

After Gilb'R's remix of J.A.K.A.M. a few months ago, we're delighted to premiere another track off their latest release : an EP by The Kloom, a new all-star project born in Dusseldorf through members of Autarkic, Naduve, Stabil Elite and more. Needless to say, impressive cast. The Die Wilde Jagd remix was our choice of the day, a slow motion groover topped with analog waves and haunting delayed vocals. Out this month so don't sleep !

In the A1 groove of ST002 comes our premiere, and Leipzig-based Luvless' contribution to the release, "Vary In Colour". It's a trademark Luvless track in the best sense; a thick drum machine and synth bass combo serving as the foundation for ethereal grand piano riffs. The flow of the track is executed perfectly; building tension with strings and clever filtering, while percussion and hats layer in to really get the track moving. It's--in short--an anthemic track--rising nicely to a brief refrain before unleashing the full energy of the progression in the final third of the arrangement. "Vary In Colour" is purely bittersweet; at once beautifully uplifting and full of sad nostalgia. An ode to the joyous, fleeting moments in life and dance.

"Ferns and Stuff" is Wild & Free's debut single on Discotexas. It's part of the much anticipated debut album from this LA based duo to be released November the 17th. Titled "Shapes on Shapes" the album sees Drew Kramer and George Cochrane deliver on the promise of their early releases with 11 tracks of languorous Poolside Disco, Tropical Pop and Balearic House. This first advance single stands as a perfect example of the exotic album's vibe. 

Both multi-instrumentalists, singers and producers in their own right, the pair came together in 2015 and have spent the past 2 years crafting a series of acclaimed EPs and remixes (for the likes of Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), Panama, Gigamesh, RAC and Ben Browning of Cut/Copy) that saw them tipped by the likes of Spin, XLR8R, Indie Shuffle and many more and take their live show on the road playing alongside the likes of Brooklyn’s Body Language.

Fouk might have been curating Outplay since 2013, but their ‘Butterfunk EP’ is in fact the duo’s first proper EP on their own imprint. It’s not that they’ve been resting on their laurels: they’ve dripfed a handful of EPs on the likes of Heist and House of Disco over the past few years, and released solo efforts on Kolour Ltd and Razor ’n Tape that stormed the charts. It’s been fascinating to see the Dutch pair slowly break the mould, moving from heavy sampling in favour to an emphasis on original instrumentation and production.
The Butterfunk EP is fine showcase of their prowess in the studio, loaded to the hilt with contemporary dance floor funk. Things kick off with the rolling drums, off-beat percussion and seriously infectious Hammond lines of Organ Freeman. Title track Butterfunk is aimed squarely at the hips with its smooth keys and perfectly placed vocal, while some acid lines give the track a little edge. Flip over for the bumping ‘Wong Way’, a chunky workout with a rubber bassline. The finale of the EP is ‘Winter’, a fantastic slice of 80’s inspired downtempo mushroom jazz.
