The winter had been dark and cold, the spring not too dissimilar, so a lot of expectations had been placed on summer. Now the long days of sunshine stretched from the early hours to late into the evening; what the people had long yearned for had finally arrived. Sweaty foreheads, sunburnt faces and humid households were welcomed with open arms; when the sun hit hard, it really hit hard.

Mexican producers Mufti and Alf Champion launched their Fucanglong Files imprint in November of last year with a VA that cemented the dark and hypnotic sounds we'd be hearing from future releases. These sounds reign supreme on their second release, an EP from Paris-based producer and musician Id!r. Following up outings for Darkroom Dubs and Clouded Vision, 'Dry Lips' pulls from a plethora of murky influences from dark wave and EBM to disco and minimal synth, fuelled by guitar licks, heavy kicks and raw synth lines.

Head honchos Elfenberg are back with another EP on their imprint. This is one of many, and what will be a busy year for the duo. What corona and cancelled gigs took away in 2020, Elfenberg will make up for in 2021, starting with this beautifully crafted 4-tracker. The EP is a housey tribute to their hometown of Stockholm. 3 original love stories plus a groovy remix from no other than Stockholm based house maestro Art Alfie. The release will be available both digital and on an eye-catching limited midnight blue 12" vinyl with a zoetrope stop-motion label design of a flying raven.

Vhyce - I Wish You Knew

Barcelona’s Anbau (Aspecto Humano) debuts on Bordello with a Giro d’Italia themed EP. Dedicated to its heroic riders and specifically the late Marco Pantani. He broke through in 1994, winning one of the hardest Giro climbs with an incredible time record; the Passo del Mortirolo. He eventually became second in the final rankings of this legendary tour of Italy.

The release will be out on the 4th of May, kicking off the 108th edition of La Corsa Rosa. Every copy comes in a limited edition sleeve with a rare original Merlin collector’s sticker of the 78th Giro from ’95.

With an abundance of amazing tunes and music coming out of these restricted times, it’s made for a bumper crop of wonky chuggers, acid heaters and sun kissed Balearic bangers for our annual ‘A Summer Riot’ EP.  So much so, that’s this year’s IX instalment has bolstered considerably, now spreading over two editions, and with 6 tracks apiece from some of our favourite producers.

Seasoned Futureboogie pros, Christophe and PBR Streetgang, head up the selection on Part Two, with Christophe delivering a meaty, reverb soaked, acid brain bender on ‘Critters 2 (The Revenge)’, whilst the PBR boys offer up a sleez and seductive Moroder inspired romp.

Glasgow’s Manakinz make a second appearance across the two ‘A Summer Riot IX’ releases, with the hypnotising ‘Mystic Throbber’, whilst Roe Deers come good with the quirky and funky sounds of ‘Monkey Dance’.

‘Fire In Zero Gravity’ by duo Acolyte, touches on Detroit techno soul and inspirative piano work for their entry, and Jakobin seals off the EP with the ghostly ambience and shuffling beats of ‘Mighty Mt’.
