After a phenomenal 2021, Jamz Supernova kicks off the new year with a new drop on the Future Bounce club series. Founded in 2020, the series has played host to both fresh and established artists and it’s return in 2022 sees the legend Scratcha DVA making his way through the FB doors with a two track release “Siyobonga” featuring vocalist DemiMa  &  club ready cut “Hard.” 

Scratcha’s recent output on his own label DRMTRK and on Hyperdub has welcomed a pivot in his sound, fusing the UK club sounds he is known for with South African Gqom and Amapiano. The lead single “Siyobonga” is the perfect homage to the Amapiano sound with shimmery melodies that chime in nicely with DemiMa’s silky vocals. The initial idea for “Siyobonga” came from a B2B between Scratcha and close friend Shy One. Shy dropped a blend of Larry Heard’s “Missing You” and in Scratcha’s own words “I had to recreate the vibe of that blend somehow, so that’s what I did and presented the idea to DemiMa to write on.” DemiMa adds “I was in Durban when Scratcha sent me the track. I loved the fusion of House & Amapiano. When Scratcha explained the Larry Heard connection, I was even more inspired to be involved. I appreciate that Scratcha has been loving South African sounds for many years and that he loves Gqom from Durban which is where I’m from. He’s not just jumping on a new wave.. he’s beeeen on! I also appreciate how Scratcha has his own vibe, it’s never long to create together.” 

Both Scratcha and DemiMa have been no strangers to collaboration. As a multi-faceted creative dipping into sound art and poetry aside of being an alluring vocalist, DemiMa has worked with the likes of  Emmavie, Blue Lab Beats, Kid X, Kalawa Jazmee, and ALXNDR London. A fair match to the credits of DVA, a pioneer, known for his work across the grime scene with the likes of Wiley & Chip. He’s a mainstay in both the past & present UK Funky sound, working with legends of the scene and newer names like DJ Polo & Tribal Brothers. And his love of a great Vocalist means he is always bringing through exciting fresh talent.

This project highlights the sweet spot between UKG, Dembow, Grime/Dubstep, with a hint of the Latin/Percussive influences INVT are known for.
