After a phenomenal 2021, Jamz Supernova kicks off the new year with a new drop on the Future Bounce club series. Founded in 2020, the series has played host to both fresh and established artists and it’s return in 2022 sees the legend Scratcha DVA making his way through the FB doors with a two track release “Siyobonga” featuring vocalist DemiMa  &  club ready cut “Hard.” 

Scratcha’s recent output on his own label DRMTRK and on Hyperdub has welcomed a pivot in his sound, fusing the UK club sounds he is known for with South African Gqom and Amapiano. The lead single “Siyobonga” is the perfect homage to the Amapiano sound with shimmery melodies that chime in nicely with DemiMa’s silky vocals. The initial idea for “Siyobonga” came from a B2B between Scratcha and close friend Shy One. Shy dropped a blend of Larry Heard’s “Missing You” and in Scratcha’s own words “I had to recreate the vibe of that blend somehow, so that’s what I did and presented the idea to DemiMa to write on.” DemiMa adds “I was in Durban when Scratcha sent me the track. I loved the fusion of House & Amapiano. When Scratcha explained the Larry Heard connection, I was even more inspired to be involved. I appreciate that Scratcha has been loving South African sounds for many years and that he loves Gqom from Durban which is where I’m from. He’s not just jumping on a new wave.. he’s beeeen on! I also appreciate how Scratcha has his own vibe, it’s never long to create together.” 

Both Scratcha and DemiMa have been no strangers to collaboration. As a multi-faceted creative dipping into sound art and poetry aside of being an alluring vocalist, DemiMa has worked with the likes of  Emmavie, Blue Lab Beats, Kid X, Kalawa Jazmee, and ALXNDR London. A fair match to the credits of DVA, a pioneer, known for his work across the grime scene with the likes of Wiley & Chip. He’s a mainstay in both the past & present UK Funky sound, working with legends of the scene and newer names like DJ Polo & Tribal Brothers. And his love of a great Vocalist means he is always bringing through exciting fresh talent.

@1codycurrie is releasing a five track EP entitled "Beer Machine". All five joints are dance floor stompers, littered with samples both familiar and not, but meticulously melded into cohesive pieces where not a single sound is out of place. Today, we have the pleasure of premiering the A2: "Heineken 04". A sampled drum loop with jazzy cymbal crashes and rides introduces the groove with Currie's own percussive choices sitting over top. Some slightly dissonant jazzy chords ascend into the fray and vocal chops are scattered throughout while a familiar albeit warbled voice takes a bit more of a central role. The low bass guitar here is the cherry on top of an already merciless groove, sure to send many a dancer into overdrive (just don't spill your beer on the dancefloor).

Cody Currie's approach is not an unfamiliar one but he is able to set himself apart from the masses with his smooth technique. The young producer's dusty sampled house sound is akin to the likes of Fouk and Brame & Hamo, high praise for someone just getting their feet wet and he is definitely one to watch. @betterlistenrecords is also doing everything right with their three stellar EPs thus far, not skimping out on anything including the artwork (which we absolutely love, by the way!).
