Playing Daybreaker at Grace Cathedral was incredibly meaningful for me on so many levels. Growing up singing in church choir was my first connection to music, so being able to DJ in a house of worship (in my wedding dress!) really brought my musical journey full circle. I thought deeply about what to play, and decided that it was really important to play soulful, uplifting house music, the music that unapologetically spreads love in the face of judgement, the music that was created (and still is) to bring fellowship to so many Black, gay, and other marginalized groups when organized religion did not support them. For so many, house music IS church — the only church where they feel 100% loved and accepted for who they are. Bringing these seemingly two diametric opposites under one roof was a powerful experience and I’m so grateful to Daybreaker and Grace Cathedral for making it happen. So as Jack said…Let There Be House!

"During the first months of the pandemic, Ryan Rumore began mixing on his roommate’s XDJ-XR2, subsequently compiling a collection of music that extended over countless genres and rhythms.
He began his deep dive into music production at this time, purchasing Ableton in 2020.  He continues to purify his sound and ability, while intentionally blurring the boundaries amidst formal genres of electronic music. 
His deep love and passion for performing was unearthed in the Mojave Desert, at a gathering known as Vast. Since then, he has played intimate venues in San Diego, although could most often be found in the undisturbed desert landscapes of California and beyond.
These days, Ryan resides in San Francisco, and is ready to share his sound with you."

This set from 04-14-24 really exemplifies my deep house curation and mixing style.  

For 6 months I've been digging through my collection, resisting the urge to buy new music and instead learning my 29-year music collection better.

Over that time, I went back through and labeled thousands of tracks by energy and feeling and created playlists from there.  

The overall energy of this mix is uplifting and dreamy, starting and ending more vocal. 

You won't know many, or perhaps any, of the tracks.

The tracks were mixed on CDJ 3000s.

Never synced, never looped, never wasting time with filters and effects with just one track playing.

Fully concentrated on blending two tracks together beautifully with subtle EQ-ing only.

It's so weird, I was thinking this was the best I'd ever done with my levels on a live mix, perhaps because I was being a good boy, carefully watching the decibel meter at Mars Bar :) 

I added the fade in and out in Logic and gave it a light mastering in LANDR.  There I got a message that my mix was lacking in dynamic range - meaning there might not be enough difference between the high and low levels of the mix - which on a live DJ mix, I am taking as a compliment 100% :)
