The music bug has always been there–from a childhood hi-fi addict, crafting homemade DJ mix tapes in her bedroom and playing any instrument within reach, to studying Creative Music Production and Lecturing in Music Technology, before taking the leap into full time production and DJing. First as the driving force behind the duo Him_Self_Her, and then as a solo artist, Just Her has grown and evolved to become a major player in the Electronic Music scene

THE FOUNDATION - GUEST MIX SERIES 006: VALIA

Australian artist Sistym has a propensity for rumbling low-end soundscapes where the sub rattles your rib cage. Growing up in Perth, she discovered D&B through religiously buying releases from labels such as Hospital Records and Shogun Audio at the local music store. Quickly falling in love with the deeper side of the genre, this new fast paced hyperfocus led her to pick up DJing, eventually resulting in playing on lineups with Andy C, Break and Alix Perez amongst many more. 

Currently based in Melbourne, she is deeply involved in the city’s D&B community and is part of the roster for respected crew The Operatives. In 2023, she founded Midnight Request - an event brand focused on promoting local and international underground acts. 

Sistym’s fondness of moody atmospheres and textures in combination with technical drum breaks and rolling basslines won her a place in the 2023 Overview Music & Dynamics production mentorship. Her debut release Eyes Open / Fever Dream was signed to Brisbane's 8Ball Audio imprint in 2024, and there are more releases cooking in the pipeline ready to be unleashed.

Appearing at internationally renowned festivals such as Shambhala and Northern Bass as well as murking clubs across the UK and Europe, watch out for Sistym shelling down more dance floors around the globe soon.

LadydeluxXxe, eine DJane, die längst schon überall bekannt ist für ihren Sound und das nicht nur regional, auch International hat Sie ihr Füllhorn voller treibender Techno-Beats schon ausgeschüttet und damit die Menschen begeistert.

Sie kam erst im Jahre 2007 so richtig auf den Geschmack der Elektronischen Musik. Schon damals hat sie die Jungs in Ihrem Freundeskreis bewundert eine so tolle Musik zu machen.
Anfangs ist Sie immer mit Ihnen in die Clubs oder zu Events als Unterstützung und treuer Fan. Im Januar 2012 hat Sie Ihre Neugier nicht mehr zurück gehalten und sich das ganze Spiel kurz und knapp in 5 Min. erklären lassen.

Ab da gab es nur noch eins: "Die Musik".

Dank der tollen Unterstützung und der Übungsstunden mit Freunden die schon seit Jahren auflegen, kann auch Sie Ihnen mittlerweile echt gut das Wasser reichen. Anfang 2013 war sie mit 4 Jungs als Ton Spur 63 unterwegs.

Die Frankfurter Jungs von PIK-FEIN oder auch Vinyl Manny supporten die Lady und unterstützen Sie natürlich tatkräftig. Die 4 sind nun in Zukunft auf der "SONDERSPUR" zusammen unterwegs und hinterlassen nicht nur Spuren in der deutschen Techno-Szene!!!

INTERVIEW

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
"Daily life impressions, emotions, atmospheres and places around the world. Also a night out listening to impressive dj’s brings me a lot, which is not much happening at the moment with the current situation of the clubs being closed and I recognized I miss a lot of inspiration from that. But it's interesting that I'm forced to find other sources to get inspiration from. For example I love visual arts and paintings, which I can use to get inspiration from. Also I visit a lot of abandoned places for my events which are all different and have different atmospheres, this gives me a lot of ideas as well. Besides that, I can also get very inspired by simply starting jamming in the studio without any clear goal."

How do you stay focussed in a world of constant distraction?
"I take time to plan in a few days where I only work on music and do nothing else. I am quite quickly distracted, impulsive and all over the place mostly. So I need to have my working place and be able to close myself off."

Do you have a morning routine?
"Not at all, I'm a night person so mostly I start my day after morning."

What fascinates you about your art?
"Several things. It’s a nice feeling to create something out of nothing and I love the way I can travel in my own mind and thoughts through sound. I can listen and work for hours on music and get through different thoughts, feelings and emotions. This works as a sort of meditation which is needed for me. The social way music connects is very fascinating as well. Meeting so many people at different places which I get connected with by sharing the same art, doing projects and learning from each other. And keeping to learn producing music is never ending. There is so much you can create and discover, you can go as far as you want which never gets boring."

What for you is the purpose of art?
"Expression, for me it’s all an expression of life."

Cour T., the budding prodigy out of Brazil, continues to keep us in awe with his creativity. He’s back on Dirtybird with “Dope Farm”, two peculiar productions that are as eccentric as they are funky.
Off-beat shuffles, ethereal sounds, bouncy subs, and rhythms that sound like cascading zippers, make up the title track and “Escape From The Barn”.

► Why are you a freak?
"I can survive on 4 hours of sleep a night. And feel great. Everything thinks that weird but I think sleep is boring."

► Most unbelievable moment?
"Winning the EDC discovery project was a pretty big accomplishment for me. Finally felt like and equal and that I was actually capable of making music on par with some of the people who I really looked up to."

► Favorite dish?
"Toss up between pizza and Caesar salad, (extra croutons)"

► Favorite freak and why?
"Genghis Kahn, he was just a bad ass... what else can be said."

► Favorite place to be? 
"I got the chance to visit the greek island of kephalonia last year. It was amazing and unbelievably beautiful. I’m half greek so it was awesome to see part of my roots and where I came from. I highly recommend visiting. "

► Upcoming releases or announcements?
"The future is somewhat uncertain right now with the state of the world but I’m confident with time things will normalize. I’m hopeful. Until then I’ll be continuing to work on music and and really excited to announce a track coming out on bass camp records in November! Be on the lookout!"
