Its hulking form loomed impressively over the landscape with silent menace, intricately laced with the forbidden technology of its inherent design - discrete but powerful audio weaponry blisters in low profile across its chassis. Its journey from the depths of the continent to the crucible of Europe had been arduous, following the densely interwoven fiber stands laid down by the Controller itself, webbed across the hemisphere to gather sonic intel from the core label habitats and to signal the gathering once per cycle at the apogee of solar proximity. With the arrival of that signal, the EATBRAIN cluster had erupted in a frenzy of activity, initiating the activation sequences planned by their greatest minds. An upload of the entire population into the vast mechanism of their creation, a design with the pure objective of sonic decimation at the LIR battle royale. It stood there against the skyline looking down at that sector, the Controller’s ship setting down in the dust of the ancient, abandoned military base, the arriving vessel unfurling resonators and speaker stacks primed with off-world mechanisms. Without hesitation the vast Eatbrain mecha issued its sequence of final checks, loading the audio assimilation interface destined to annihilate all below and took a stride towards the awaiting masses.

The media descend with ravenous hunger upon the minds of the weak, turning human beings into simple ideological vessels, machines that regurgitate the lies of the very people that feed on them. We have been sabotaged and infiltrated with a deadly code, one that turns humans into slaves, into killers, that divides and disconnects us to leave as at the mercy of bitter social surgeons and eats the very time of our existence. But we offer hope - they are the few, we are the many - the system relies on us to subjugate ourselves, to build our own chains under the pressure of cultural normality, and using the media’s scorn to discredit the very real alternatives that allow us to slip outside the system. We, the Fifth Column, flow invisible through this network, erasing the language malware that has infected untold numbers. Language from the heart connects us, words can free and inspire us, and the weight of the bass reminds us of our power. It’s time to eradicate and liberate.

When Donny (UK), Katharsys (FR) and Forbidden Society (CZ) joined forces, known through their pseudonym 3RDKND, it sent shockwaves throughout the darker droves of drum & bass. As individuals, they’ve each had an impressive array of club and festival appearances as well as releases on some of the scene’s most unforgiving imprints. And this is something which is set to continue, although this time as a collective after the trio unleashed their first painstakingly engineered creations on stage at the Let it Roll festival Mecca in 2018. 
Since their ‘Cognitive’ EP, they’ve spent months perfecting this next output and it’s something which is clear through the high-levels of production demonstrated throughout. They wanted to merge the experimental world and the harder styles they’ve become aligned with; this is something which is done without remorse, whilst never watering down the quality of their sounds. The ‘Remnant’ EP is a package which doesn’t sacrifice class for its heaviness and neither does it sacrifice its heaviness for more commercial appeal. This is reminiscent of Forbidden Society’s catalogue, the label named after one part of 3RDKND project, and an imprint providing the perfect home for the collectives’ sonic art. 
‘Kill’, ‘Demon’, ‘The Fix’ and ‘Remnant of a Dream’ give an idea of their dispositions through their intimidating namesakes. As can be expected, both ‘Kill’ and ‘Demon’ go straight for the sonic jugular and they do so without restraint, something which each part of the trio are renowned for. ‘The Fix’ and ‘Remnant of a Dream’ are just as explosive but through different means. With each featuring a cinematic introduction, you’re pulled into the sci-fi inspired landscape of the collective and dropped into their world, filled with gyrating snare patterns and slicing kick drums. As a package, the ‘Remnant’ EP shows how 3RDKND are continuing their assault. Something which they’re dedicated to and with help from a platform like Forbidden Society, this is sure to continue as their career climbs to new heights.
