Soul Candi started out as a record shop in vinyl DJing’s heyday, and it was where like-minded DJs from across the country would converge to hear and buy the latest, tastiest house tracks. The store became a focal point for house proponents of the caliber of DJ Fresh, Oskido, Euphonik and many more. But despite the presence of these big personalities, everyone was welcome, and the beats were a treat. As house music became THE sound of South Africa, the business grew and Soul Candi started making the most popular tunes available to everybody via their range of cool compilation CDs. Now the nation could own what the best DJs were playing on the airwaves and in the clubs. Now Soul Candi has a new mission statement: it’s been re-coded as an all-encompassing media house – which ironically takes the company back to its roots: sharing the best house music the world has to offer.

The Vinyl Kid, also known as Asad Abrahams, is a rising star in the South African entertainment industry. Born on May 4, 1992, he discovered at a young age that music was more than just a collection of sounds and beats; it was a powerful form of communication that brought people together. He began his musical journey using Virtual DJ and performed at numerous house parties, matric farewells, and nightclubs across the Western Cape.

In mid-2011, Asad decided to relocate to Johannesburg. In 2012, he enrolled at the Soul Candi Institute of Music, where he completed a comprehensive year-long course in Music Production & Audio Engineering. During this time, he captivated audiences at esteemed nightclubs such as Manhattans, Taboo, and Latinova in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

The year 2013 was a significant milestone for The Vinyl Kid as he joined U-Party, Johannesburg's largest Under-18 events company. He featured in their 2013 Summer Tour, sharing the stage with renowned DJs like DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Roger Goode, and DJ Kent. In 2014, he dedicated his time to his home studio, honing his production skills. His talents were recognized by local radio stations like Kofifi FM, Eldo's FM, UJFM, BayFM, as well as national stations such as 5FM and MetroFM. The Vinyl Kid also contributed to the SANAA Africa Arts Festival 2014, curating and producing music for the festival's fashion segment. He even had the opportunity to showcase his skills on Channel O's Celebrity Bassment, which aired on DSTV channel 320. Throughout 2014, he continued to impress audiences at various clubs and festivals in the Gauteng region, culminating in his role as the official DJ for the Sansui Summer Cup.

In 2015, The Vinyl Kid expanded his impact on the entertainment industry by spearheading his own events. Together with a few of his peers, he launched a weekly event called "Phat Thursdays" at Cantare, a popular nightclub in Johannesburg's Fourways area. This event quickly gained recognition and became widely known across South Africa. In the same year, The Vinyl Kid collaborated with various artists and earned the esteemed position of being Nasty C's official DJ and Road Manager.

Leveraging his experience and training, The Vinyl Kid continuously strives to deliver exceptional music to diverse crowds, regardless of age. His DJ sets encompass a wide range of genres, showcasing his versatility and captivating audiences with his unique blend. He has showcased his talents at venues all around South Africa, including Konka Soweto, Saint Lounge Cape Town, Ayepyep Cape Town, and Rich Nightclub Durban, among others. Currently, The Vinyl Kid is focused on producing his own tracks, which he plans to introduce to the industry through his DJ performances. He is also involved in two big-name branded events, namely "DayVybes" and "AfroPiano Fest," which have gained recognition both locally and internationally. The Vinyl Kid has been fortunate enough to showcase his talent on a global scale, performing at venues worldwide, including Dallas (Texas), Miami (Florida), Cancun (Mexico), Cyprus, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, and many more.
