Sophie du Palais, also known as Vrouwe Fataal, is a German vocalist and recording artist from Amsterdam. Sophie du Palais’ sound mixes elements of sinister and commanding vocals – reminiscent of Miss Kittin’ – to create an infectious vortex of panic.

After a night of experimenting in a studio and uploading her first track on Soundcloud, Pinkman Records stumbled upon the profile. She released twice on Pinkman which is known for having a third ear out for the very finest sounds of tomorrow.

Sophie du Palais’ and Identified Patient’s haughty, somewhat punky track ‘Crush On You’ caught fire with the burgeoning international crowd and her stony vocals similarly lined up with their Dekmantel release “The drip” a year later.

A series of early productions on various artists compilations were scattered throughout 2020.

While dance floors were going wild from Sao Paolo to Moscow and India, Du Palais was finalizing her debut EP. This collection of clubby productions with new wave sensibilities will be released on BFE Records in July 2021.

'Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.

Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

This illustration is an homage to Maria Prymachenko’s “May That Nuclear War be Cursed!”, which also inspired the title of this release. The DJ and hardware focussed producer has been impressing with his work for some time with deadly releases on labels like Electric Shapes, Sign Bit Zero, numerous on Pinkman Broken Dreams, on towLie's kaften label, on Arma Records as his alias Golden Axe and others. With the recent Ukraine war, he has made it a point as a Russian artist to take a stance against violence and speak out. He has contributed in many ways including all sales from his EP on Pinkman this year as well as being part of the fundraiser compilation by Global Warming Records which was curated by Yssue and featured 22 Russian artists. NI56 | MANASYt

Never Been is the first collaborative release by Loradeniz and Interstellar Funk, who produced the EP at a Volkshotel artist residency in Amsterdam, in 2021. The record examines the interplay of synthetic melodies and Loradeniz’s vocals, which are underpinned by meticulously crafted rhythms. Steeped in melancholy, many of the tracks on Never Been evoke the essence of departure, complex emotions and fading memories.

‘Freefall’ – which has already been played by DJs last summer – opens with a solid bassline and crystalline melodies. An urgent kick and racing hi-hats intensify the composition, while the dominant topline brings to mind a rapturous dance at twilight. An allegory of communication, ‘Hidden Tongue’ has Loradeniz pronouncing splintered vowels, like a malfunctioning public service recording, over a reverberated snare, deep kick and repeating glockenspiel figure.

‘Fly Me In’ begins with an arpeggiated melody, before slowly combining multiple electric accents and delicate vocals with spoken word passages exploring notions of escape. The heroic overtones of ‘Situational Lullaby’ develop subtly with layers of synths reminiscent of mid-90s soundtracks, while ‘Lurking Orange’ closes the release with its listless refrain and snake-like percussion.

metaphysik brings Ancient Methods and Theologian together into one sphere, with the intention to juxtapose their energy and aesthetic elements alike. As both commenced as strangers and worked separately, the split has developed, gravitating naturally towards the themes of love and death.

“Death Elemental” by Theologian is a relentless and compelling journey featuring wistful cello by Gretchen Heinel and synth by Daniel Suffering.

“A German Love” by Ancient Methods delivers a pounding pace creating an unforgiving wall of sound, while “Built on Scars” is supported by a pulse heavy rhythm.

The split release comes in a screen printed sleeve. Each copy is hand numbered up to 400. A special print is reserved for the first 150 copies. The mastering is done by Rashad Becker who has yet again proved is talent.
