Smack bang in the middle of a pandemic after almost a year of no gigs, Lachy Doley decided to get all his favourite people together and record and film something really special.
On his 43rd birthday they played 2 big sets in front of an audience of 20 at Sydney’s iconic Studios 301. A four piece horn section, three piece vocal section, his brother Clayton guesting on piano, two feature lead tracks one by Mahalia Barnes and one by Karen Lee Andrews. All together a killer 14 piece band and a new highlight of Lachy’s career.

In a dream-like world this track finds it's place, in a way it made me think of the surrealist works from the twentieth century by artists like Dali, Magritte, de Chirico, and Dutch painter Carel Willink, for whose nephew I have worked as architect. This started when I was messing around with some softsynth VST's I hadn't used before and landed upon a sound I liked using one called Prodigious Synth.  I laid down a bit of an upward melodic progression with the pianoroll and that became the basis for the song.

Somewhere along the way I threw in some radio clips from the Apollo program and kept tinkering with it the last few weeks until it has become a sort of series of set pieces hinging around the same melodic cues.

I had some fun messing with some pictures of the Apollo 11 moon landing to make the track art as well.  You can see the full resolution image here: https://i.imgur.com/3xaHWcX.jpg

Track shows a very delicate theme and a quite hard-riffed part, both alternating and finally flowing up to an endless symphonic dream (words are half a poem I wrote previously (not these, but lyrics below)).
