With the release of “Doppelganger” Spanish trio Jupiter Lion, are still in search of all things celestial, danceable and psychedelic. The single is a lead-in to the band’s follow up to 2013’s highly cinematic and proggy debut ‘Silver Mouth’, due out on BCore later this year.

“Doppelganger” is another long form voyage for the band, the gazing brilliance of vintage synths and high energy jazz fills is like a cruise in the galaxy of kraut-rock. It drones with the chirpy minimalism of Japan’s Nisennenmondai, yet experiments with quivering keys and fuzz that even recalls My Bloody Valentine. The songs climaxing solo of 8-bit walls of sound and perceptual distortion suggests the forthcoming sophomore will be traveling fearlessly into spacey unexplored territory. 

The bands analog approach to electronic music sets them apart in their native Valencia, a place where DJ nightlife reigns supreme and alternative pop is in short supply. Long stints in the studio as well as a death in their family has put the bands live performances on hold, but not without increasing requests for their live shows. This May marks their third appearance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, with tours as support for both Spectrum and Dead Skeletons already wrapped.

Alone as purveyors of a futurist style that avidly shirks the use of laptops for performance, Jupiter Lion are remarkably forward thinking for the human presence they embody with electronics. Living in the dystopian future of their own country’s paralyzed economy, the members see their cosmic journeys through song become their escape from a sci-fi world become real.

London experimental five-piece return for more anarchic genre-blending adventures. 

London experimental five-piece Housewives return for more anarchic genre-blending adventures with their new single 'Speak To Me'; A synthesized collage written in Wetherspoons, cafes and anywhere away from their houseboats where they could find an electrical supply. 

Exploring the possibilities of electronic sound, with dead-behind-the-eyes chanting, this latest snippet of things to come marks a turning point for the band who sold their guitars to buy midi equipment and swapped London rents for houseboat living. 

Using huge live drums, saccharine vocal samples, pulsating sub bass and mechanically entwined guitar lines; 'Speak to Me' is a sign of the bands’ new direction with a constantly evolving sound, creating an anxiety and tightness that assumes the feeling of a knot in the stomach, or a strained smile. 

The band describe it as 'a love song of frustration and sensitivity through the eyes of a victim of the isolation of modern life. Quiet but not shy, voiceless, seething, dumb and in love'. 

In the video, created by the band and our in-house art department, we're transported into a manifestation of the inescapable digital experience of our everyday lives and its effect on our psyche. The thin layer of perceptible reality is constantly disrupted via the breaking of the digital facade.

‘Paciencia’ is the Brazilian duo’s 9-track debut album, recorded, produced and mixed at Studio DEEWEE. Boasting songs about the cosmos, relationships, nostalgia and signs of the Zodiac. The longplayer follows Phillipi & Rodrigo’s single of the same name; released in November 2018 and will be available from 22nd February on all formats. 

Described by David and Stephen as sounding “like Stereolab in 2019 singing in Portuguese while a Batucada band performs at a Brazilian beach techno party”, ‘Paciencia’ (album) begins with ‘Magnetico’, a languid, dubby start, that opens proceedings before the upbeat, organ-heavy psychedelic pop of ‘Retrogrado’ (the new single). The melancholic ‘Minas’ (complete with beautiful piano, strings, and birdsong), is the first straight dance cut on the album, a torch song, sung, like the rest of the album, in Portuguese. 

Previous single, ‘Mantra’, is included as a digital exclusive, as is the equally acclaimed ‘Karma’. ‘Barberella’ and ‘Rotina’ show the depth and width to Phillipi & Rodrigo’s sound, before the album shifts gear with the slow techno groove of ‘Face’, and ‘Paciencia’ (single) closes the album with 5 minutes of hynoptic brilliance.

Scheduled for release in March 2019 via Denovali Records, Emitter is the third release by UK based instrumental ensemble The Pirate Ship Quintet. This follows their highly acclaimed 2007 self-titled debut EP and 2012’s full length, Rope for No Hopers. 
 
Once again taking their favoured DIY approach, the album was recorded and mixed by the band, giving them complete control over the record’s direction and nuance. Emitter was mastered in the US by renowned musician and engineer James Plotkin, who has also worked with the likes of ISIS, Earth and Sunn O))). 
 
The album features a number of collaborators including award winning modern classical composer Emily Hall (Bedroom Community) adding the voices of her curated choir to ‘Companion’ and ‘Wreath’. Further vocal performances come from soloists Blythe Pepino (Vaults/Mesadorm) and award-winning singer-songwriter Emily Barker. 
The title track ‘Emitter’ showcases celebrated saxophonist Andrew Hayes (Run Logan Run/Tezeta), whose bright jazz flourishes and rending wails add a deeply plaintive touch. The band’s cellist Sandy Bartai (London Symphony Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales) delivers the sombre laments that are the calling-card of The Pirate Ship Quintet. 
 
Emitter is the band’s most ambitious release to date, shying away from traditional songwriting paradigms and encouraging the music to progress into more eclectic spaces. This has allowed the band to explore their individual tastes and influences. The album flows organically between smaller, tightly-focused pieces and longer, more expansive suites which together form a cohesive soundscape. 
 
The Pirate Ship Quintet’s core line-up consists of Sandy Bartai (cello), Alphie Matthews (guitar), Jonathan Sturgess (drums), Jonathan Ziapour (bass) and Alex Hobbis (guitar).
