The empathy test in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is based on the premise that machines, no matter how advanced, lack compassion. But for childhood friends, Isaac Howlett (vocals) and Adam Relf (production), Empathy Test is all about wearing their hearts on their digital sleeves. With driving synth chords, punchy 4/4 beats and euphoric ‘80s melodies, the London-based duo take inspiration as much from modern acts like Chvrches and Purity Ring as they do from Vangelis and Depeche Mode. But far from sounding like just another ‘80s-electro reboot, Empathy Test have cultivated a mesmerizing and immersive identity which sets them apart from pretty much anyone else on the scene.

With an insistence on glorious hooks and instantly memorable vocal lines, Empathy Test are refreshingly unafraid to be pop music. Since self-releasing their debut EP “Losing Touch” in February, Empathy Test have picked up thousands of fans via sheer word-of-mouth and late-night tweets, and collaborated with Richard Swarbrick on numerous viral animation videos for ESPN and Liverpool FC. Empathy Test signed to Brooklyn’s Stars & Letters Records in the spring of 2014, with their follow-up EP “Throwing Stones” releasing December 9th, 2014.

Empathy Test are back with double A-Side ‘Demons / Seeing Stars’, the first taste of the forthcoming debut album. Since releasing their stunning debut EP, ‘Losing Touch’, the enigmatic duo have impressed with their brooding cinematic electro pop sound; winning both critical acclaim and a legion of dedicated fans worldwide. Their music has seen radio support with KCRW, BBC Introducing and XFM and features with MTV, Clash Music, Earmilk and PopMatters amongst others. Isaac Howlett and Adam Relf formed Empathy Test after discovering a mutual love of eighties sci-fi soundtracks, nineties guitar bands and underground dance music. With echoes of CHVRCHES and Purity Ring, their sound has been described as Future Pop, Dark Wave and numerous other variations along similar themes.

The name Empathy Test is taken from the science fiction film Blade Runner. The duo’s artwork is also sci-fi inspired and follows similar themes to the movie, focusing on the basis of consciousness and the relationship between humans and technology. New track ‘Demons’ deals with the human nature of jealousy and how it can destroy a relationship. It explores how some people unconsciously cultivate jealousy in a partner in order to control them. In this all-consuming infatuation, nothing else matters - “and now she wakes up, every day and she invites, all of my demons to play.” It’s a subject that captures the duo’s strength and goes straight for the jugular.

Empathy Test are renowned for captivating their audiences with their branded mix of analogue synth sounds, uplifting melodies and catchy choruses. Live shows take audiences through driving creative rhythms and eighties pop beats, and new single ‘Demons’ is a live favourite amongst fans. While on tour last year, Empathy Test performed at Wave-Gotik- Treffen Festival in Germany, Urban Forest Festival in the UK and headlined Riba Rocks Festival in Spain. They have shared stages with artists such as Bombay Bicycle Club and The Japanese House. Empathy Test are embarking on another European tour that culminates with a show at London’s The Garage in October 2016. Today we've got the honor to welcome our sound ranger Janoma, who guarantees us a perfect start to the week. With his crystal clear and rhythmic flow we take the chance to dance ourselves out of the matrix and feel the abundance of our true being.

Janoma’s signature sound reflects his many influences and interests. A Black Forest native, Berlin resident and urban ecosystem scientist by trade, he is a versatile music selector at heart. <3
His passion for music was born at his first open air raves in nature, where he found himself connecting to the energy and calm vibes that shaped his specific style of playing music. Over the years, his sound has developed into his own brand of storytelling: it is organic and deep, criss-crossing different genres and styles with skill and an innate sense for the energy on the dance floor. Never afraid to include shamanic and traditional tribal elements into his sets, he has been known to take listeners on journeys through colorful atmospheres and throbbing beats, showing a deep instinct for timing and suspense as he paints a vivid picture for the inner eye to see.

Frankie Rose has forged an enviable musical legacy, from playing with bands like Crystal Stilts and The Vivian Girls during the heyday of the late 00s Brooklyn indie scene to releasing influential solo albums like "Interstellar" and "Cage Tropical." Synthesizing wide-ranging influences, she's crafted a very distinctive and original musical voice that echoes some of the best post-punk, new wave and 80s pop while still sounding totally fresh. It was in this spirit that Frankie covered in its entirety The Cure's classic "Seventeen Seconds" for Turntable Kitchen's Sounds Delicious series, and now we're making it available digitally so that it can reach a wider audience.

The quality of the interpretations here speak for themselves, but here's Frankie talking about tackling this album: "Since I already think it's a perfect record, I tried not to reinterpret too much and stick to similar sounds as the original, but with a twist. Working on it with Jorge Elbrecht was a dream, because he's the only person who’s as deep of a Cure fan as I am! And he's a damn wizard!" Together Frankie and Jorge have created something quite special, paying loving tribute to this well-loved album while still putting their own very contemporary stamp on the songs.

Billie Ray Martin is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of her acclaimed Crackdown Project as a deluxe double CD digipack edition. ‘The Crackdown Project‘ features Billie’s re-workings of the Cabaret Voltaire Industrial/Dance music classics ‘The Crackdown’ and ‘Just Fascination’, along with an immense collection of innovative remixes personally commissioned by Billie featuring some of the brightest stars of the deep electronica underground.
 
Also featuring a vocal turn by Cabaret Voltaire founding member Stephen Mallinder – as well as a stunning remix from Hey Rube! (Mallinder’s new project with fellow dance music legend Steve Cobby) – The Crackdown Project is an expansive musical homage to the founding fathers of electronic dance music. Not only does Billie pay tribute to electronic music’s halcyon days, but she single-handedly pulls these classic tracks into the future.
 
When Billie told Stephen Mallinder she had just finished the job of selling out Cabaret Voltaire to disco, he burst out laughing. The legendary head of famed electronic band Cabaret Voltaire saw no reason to stop her. Instead, he agreed to deliver his first vocal performance in years on Billie’s cover of the Cabs’ song ‘The Crackdown’. Produced by top Berlin tech-house act Maertini Broes, this production brings Billie Ray Martin back to her famed house music roots. And with the UK's finest Nu-Disco producer Lusty Zanzibar on production for ‘Just Fascination‘ the result is a no-holds-barred epic groove fest with a Balearic touch.
 
Remixes were delivered not only by Billie's 'Your Loving Arms' co-writer David Harrow (under his Oicho moniker), but also by super-blog Audio Porn Central's top remix team: Celebrity Murder Party, Copycat, Divide and Create, Dunproofin, Flying White Dots, Phil RetroSpector and Year Zero have all delivered something that goes beyond mere remixing but they have created stunning artistic reworks of these classic songs.
 
Originally a digital release on Billie's Disco Activisto label, The Crackdown Project hit the pop mainstream achieving ‘Song of the Day‘ status at Popjustice and delivered 20,000 downloads in just a matter of days. It is now being released on CD for the very first time, including an exclusive new mix.
