For this installment of my chill series I found inspiration the moment I heard a vocodered voice singing Hotel California in the Luxxury edit. A week later I heard AfroQBen's amazing remix of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and I was off to the races. Being a New Wave kid as a teen I didn't get into many of these songs until my adult years and yet somehow I listen to this mix and it makes me feel like a teenager again.

My Definition of Chill Vol. 6 Jukebox Hero

Always my favorite set of the year, this year's set from the 18th annual Friends and Family Summer Campout, keeps that tradition well alive. I played later than usual, starting at 4:00 am, so the track selections are just a tad deeper and tweakier, in the techno vein, but with a few fun house trax thrown in cos, er, I like house! Turn it up and shake yer ass!

Ethan - Live at FnF Campout XVIII

By far, my favorite experience at Burning Man this year was DJing atop Garage Mahal's Ganesh Bus - in the midst of a raging dust storm - on a magical mystical art tour in celebration of my dear friend Janet Love's 50th birthday. It was just insane out - a bus full of stoked Mahalers and random burners appearing out of the dust to climb aboard; so much wind and dust that I literally couldn't tell if we were moving or not; CDJs so near the end of their rope that it's a miracle they went the distance; fantastic art appearing and disappearing in the most surreal of fashions; and a bunch of deep, warm, happy and all around awesome house music. Truly the stuff magic is made of. The actual set was not recorded, but this redux version definitely captures the feeling and is the better, quality wise, for having not been recorded under those insanely wonderful conditions. My deepest love and thanks to everyone that built the bus and rode it that day. Dedicated with love to you, to Janet Love for your birthday and to my love, Flo, for the best Burn ever, baby. Love you all, tons.

RIPEcast Deckard - Live from Break Boat Party

Born and bred in Washington, Keith Harris (a.k.a. Deckard) started DJ-ing in 2000, at venues and clubs in Seattle and Canada. He moved to San Francisco in 2005 where his skills and talent evolved and became even more prolific, garnering interest and accolade and earning him a spot in the underground music scene.

Deckard made his big splash as a member of Coda in 2006 at Burning Man. Soon after he joined forces with the Space Cowboys whose parties are legendary in San Francisco and Burning Man and whose Ripecast podcast was nominated for Best Podcast of the Year by Breakspoll for 2013.

Mixing together a blend of music selection including, but certainly not limited to breakbeat, nu funk, and house, Deckard keeps crowds on their feet and moving backed by his unique sound and ability to mix genres whether it be playing a sunrise set at Breakfast of Champions or closing down the main room in front of a packed warehouse.

Deckard has performed in a variety of venues on the west coast and Canada with DJs such as Jondi & Spesh, Uberzone, Lee Coombs, Plump DJs, Dylan Rhymes, Meat Katie, Elite Force/Simon Shackleton, Worthy and more.

Deckard - Episode 118

I'm celebrating my lucky 13th year of DJ'ing and my birthday today with a new studio mix, Thirteen.  I dug through my library to find a few old songs that I love that haven't made it onto any published sets along with some fresher tracks.  I realized I have so many unpublished sets due to my unreasonable perfectionism and my goal is to publish sets more often!  

Thank you for all the continued support on the dancefloor over the years!  I feel so lucky to still be able to play some great parties here in San Francisco and beyond.

I recently got back from a trip to France.  There's so much beauty in that country it's hard to take it all in. A walk along Canal Saint Martin

This mix is a soundtrack of sorts, inspired by a recent trip to Tulum, where all the artists that I love are wafting through the air at beachside  bars and restaurants in the jungle.  I hope it transports you to your own little jungle paradise in the Caribbean, sun on your skin, wind in your hair, and mezcal cocktail in your hand.  Enjoy, darlings!

once upon a time in the jungle

Every year on the Playa brings new lessons. Some are complex, some are simple reminders. For the two of us this past year, the message was "back to basics." As hyper-analytical DJs, we're prone to focusing on performance from a critical viewpoint: did we gauge the energy level correctly, were our transitions dialed in? But this year, playing after the sunrise on Friday, seeing so many friends and campmates out for a morning dance reminded that the point of all this is a simple one: coming together and sharing moments of joy. A wonderful and welcome wake-up call. Thanks to Robot Heart for setting the stage!

ALKEMY - Journey by Spaniol

On this weeks episode of the RIPEcast we are paying tribute to a dear friend and fellow Space Cowboy PK, who recently lost his battle with brain cancer.  Ben Anderson is dishing out a sweet mix of bass, breaks, and house to honor his memory and get your booty shakin’ the way that PK would have demanded it to. Here are a few words from Ben Anderson about this mix:

“This one is dedicated to Peter Kimelman aka PK. Tomorrow it will be 17 years exactly since he had his first surgery. He woke up saying he felt like he got hit by a mack truck. He had to re-learn how to walk, but he did it. Dude did it for 17 years. Recording this RIPEcast has been my dance therapy since his passing. Hope y’all dig it.”

Buon giorno!  It's been a few minutes since I put out a mixtape and for that I apologize.  But it's 2019 now and new year new approach. :) Some of my time has been dedicated to keeping up on live gigs and for a while now I've been wanting to kinda get away from live shows and focus more on mixtapes and more from a personal point of view without the demands of a live show.  I want to focus more on eclectic and interesting music for the dome more than beats for the club.  Though it's absolutely not for lack of having fun because my last handfull of gigs were all very good times.  :)  Speaking of, I meant to publish my live set from the Shinto at the last WTF but never got around to it, but this one was super special so I wanted to make sure I shared it.  It was such an honor to fill this slot at the Shinto, the mystical heart of WTF and one of the most beautiful spaces ever.  I played Sunday night super late, right before sunrise.  All the other stages closed down right as I started so soon everyone awake in the entire festival was there.  I will never forget the scene.  Seratonin was taxed but the vibration was so amazing that weekend, everyone was on a cloud.  Looking out over the sea of faces all throbbing to the bass was all time.  Mega big ups to Allowe and her entire team (as well as the entire WTF family) for creating the magic, dishing out the miso buttery hospitality and conjuring an experience unlike any other.  The backstage scene that night was so great with so many friends holding it down.  It was really one of my favorite nights playing music ever.  It was a huge honor to be asked to fill that space at that time.  Thanks as well to Luke for being such a touchstone 	and getting the Funktion One humming real nice.  Apologies for the delay!  More soon!  :)
