Lau.ra’s second single from her upcoming EP, Vol. 1, is named after the Chinese city of Chengdu where the surrounding plain is known as the "Country of Heaven” and this track is nothing short of heavenly. 
 
‘Chengdu’ is a laidback eastern jam which is driven by a soft flute motif that carries you softly into a field of scattered percussion, skipping beats and an unforgiving bassline which contrasts perfectly with its mellow surroundings. The track is reminiscent of the underground UKG scene with its swung beats and a withdrawn, reverb soaked vocal sample drawing parallels with Burial’s earlier work. ‘Chengdu’ is the perfect track for the small hours of the night and early hours of the morning when your ears need to be soothed and your mind to be put at ease.

Lau.ra was dubbed by Radio 1 legend Annie Mac as "a one woman powerhouse” and her singles, ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ and ‘Wicked’, received massive support from Radio 1, 6 Music, Triple J and has had features on The Guardian and Billboard.’

Following Anna Gram's Celestial Objects EP last summer, Hammer's Remmah label dips once again into the Glasgow talent pool to present a debut release from another of its most exciting resident DJs, in collaboration with a seasoned veteran of the UK techno scene.

A name sharply on the rise, Stevie Cox recently joined legends Harri, Domenic & Telford at as resident of the club’s flagship Saturday night party, Subculture - the longest running underground weekly house night in the world.

Operating under the guises of Fossil Archive and Roberto, Robert Kirkaldy has cemented himself as a trusted name over the years; building up an impressive discography that never wavers in quality, while playing regularly at some of the most respected clubs around the world, including fabric, Berghain and Tresor.

After meeting in Summer 2021, it quickly became apparent that the pair shared a strong musical connection which effortlessly translated itself into production. A debut release for Stevie and adding to Rob’s amazing catalogue; the Daydreamer EP is a club-ready, emotionally rich four-tracker.

The Daydreamer EP opens with 'Stolen Glances' - a deep, tunnely, dub techno-esque number that pairs soft, spacey effects with punchy drums. Next is 'Searching' - full of tension and dark, acid breaks inspired by the pair’s love for drum & bass, lifted by ethereal vocals from Kiara Scuro’s ZaaZaa. 'Daydreamer' is a hypnotic, feel-good heater that sounds like it was made to be played at the legendary Sub Club in Glasgow on a Saturday night. The EP closes off with a dreamy, stripped back DJ tool edit of 'Daydreamer' which is sleepy by name and nature.

With three single releases already under his belt, @ka-boukie continues his exploration of Afrofuturism on ‘Strip Away/Spooky C’. Teaming up once again with longtime collaborators @jonasdrema and @leon-somov, Boukie delves further into race, identity and claiming one’s space in the diaspora. Both tracks outlay the fusion of his own music history, with elements of electronic, drum & bass and dub, creating a promising teaser for what’s to come on the forthcoming debut album, ‘Rnig’.

On the occasion of this hundredth release "BOXON MAKES ME SUNNY" from Boxon Records, the boss of the label, Julien Minet, wanted to bring together on the same compilation tracks that smell good of the sun.

After the success of the four compilations released previously, Boxon this time turned to international producers (Belgium, France, Italy, South Africa, Hong Kong) not yet signed to the label (De Gama, Mebara Sao, Hallex M, etc.) as well as to relatives or artists already known to the house (Lois fr and Fruckie, Lithium, etc.).
Jamais2 opens the tracklist with their composition “Mangrove” perfect as an intro. Dj Soso then joins forces with Team Complex and Thabo Gallano to create "Ishe Wemakiyi", a sweet Afro-House title already dancing. Belgian artist Mebara Sao continues to make our bodies ripple with "Douala", full of percussion, exotic synths and precisely placed female vocals. Then it's the turn of the funky De Gama to heat up the dancefloor with the superb "Tropical Boogie", a title rich in Afro and Latin sounds. The Bordelais Lithium continues with “Soul Africa” which, embellished with joyful vocals, remains just as percussive and catchy! De Gama returns with “Cosmic Safari” and its Dub sounds, a real journey of more than 13 minutes honoring the Disco-House with, as guides, elegant funky brass instruments. Accompanied by Manashe Music / Uthando / Ulethu, and again by Team Complex, Dj Soso gives us a warm and full of love, resolutely summery title: "Summer Love". Label buddies Lois fr and Fruckie have won their bet by composing “Zambia”, more Club oriented with its analog instruments and soaring vocals! Just as dedicated to the dancefloor, “City of Birds” by Fab From Toulouse takes us to the heart of Africa with its lyrics responding wonderfully against a background of sunny groove. Hallex M then arrives with his efficient production "Okap" mixing Tech-House beats and Afro sounds. Nnuspaper brings the tempo back down a bit by delivering "Yanahéou" in a Dub and groovy spirit. Then it's the turn of Tim'so from Bordeaux to take us into Trance with "The Wall of Happiness", a more minimal but just as convincing piece. Also a little trancy, “Sway” by artist Jykso sounds good Deep and its melody is rather intoxicating. This compilation finally closes with the title "Waza" whose frank percussions and groove do not fail to leave us indifferent.

On the eve of the release of his new album 'Les Délivrés', an extension of his soundtrack illustrating this poignant documentary on the struggle of the Uber Eats or Delivroo drivers, Maxime Dangles unveils 'Matin Bleu'.

Maxime Dangles entered the electronic music scene 15 years ago on the Kompakt label, collecting prestigious remixes (Moby, Green Velvet, Simian Mobile Disco, Kittin & The Hacker...). Reference of the international electronic scene, he’s renowned for his immersive and singular sound design that he shapes with his modular synths.

Nourished by the feelings of the protagonists of the documentary such as struggle, anger, stress, alienation or hope, Maxime Dangles signs here a militant soundtrack that prolongs the struggle of the Délivrés in a poetic way between IDM, electronica and ambient. With 'Matin Bleu', hope and the dream of a better life are translated with this contemplative and melancholic electronica track mixing delicate and sensitive piano notes with his singular modular sound that has made his trademark. A crossover of electronic and contemporary music reminiscent of Yann Tiersen's latest compositions or Fabrizio Rat.

The single is accompanied by a remix by French electro-pop revelation Penelope Antena, who revisits the track in a bright and unifying minimal house version.

'Les Délivrés' LP will be available on vinyl and digital February, 17th on Lifeguards - a new sub-label of Astropolis Records, and Maxime Dangles will premiere his new live show at Astropolis l'Hiver February, 11th

With its proto-Hacienda grooves, ‘Eyes Over’ is a 21st Century take on a muscular brand of synth pop, offering an alluring landscape for the artist’s restless vocals. The harder-hitting Extended Dub takes more precise aim at the dancefloor, allowing each disparate, analogue element more room to unfold across a throbbing baseline. 

"I wanted to use the vehicle of a 4/4 track to set up a simulated night club,” Gabe says of the track. “To communicate the feeling that comes when we are losing ourselves in that love / lust-filled situation."

Eyes Over

The siren roared from atop the lighthouse as the storm battered against the coast. It was a night of trouble in the bay and at this point it was hard to tell who or what might make it out alive. The wind howled with a wild roar as the rain crashed down from the blackened heavens up above. Boats tossed and turned in an attempt to wrestle with the dangerous waves and they could only hope that the weather might soon pass. This was unprecedented, a beating like no other. 

Autarkic is set to release a startling new EP on Hoga Nord Rekords, an imprint of which we are very fond. He delivers a trademark blow to the club with intriguing orchestration and melody.

North East duo @Forriner are back with their third and final instalment of the Samurai trilogy on their eponymous 'Forriner Music' imprint. A four tracker of experimental club music for powerful dance floor experiences that offers two originals as well as a banger from Bird Of Paradise  (@sulkmagic)and Legget and Suade for the remixes.

Here we present the remix of Neon by Jo Howard aka Bird of Paradise who takes the reins delivering a charging peak-time club tool with relentless batteries of percussion setting the stage for a trippy soundscape. Other than their Northern roots, what these producers have in common is a distinctive approach to rhythm. The restlessness of the sharp stabs of static perfectly guiding the darkly pulsing mood.

Phantasy Sound regulars Cowboy Rhythmbox return to the imprint this November with three esoteric cuts entitled ‘Terminal Madness’.

After solid releases throughout 2018 from Daniel Avery, Ghost Culture, James Welsh and Red Axes to name a few, Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound return with a triple pronged battle weapon from Cowboy Rhythmbox that takes in inspiration from a wealth of disparate elements; the brutal drum machine swagger of early Chicago house, the murky world of 1980's video arcades, the bleeps of Sheffield, arcane home computing documentaries recorded to VHS, public access TV.

‘Terminal Madness’ is a quirky track about the paranoia surrounding artificial intelligence, inspired by early Dance Mania releases and broken pocket calculators amongst other things. ‘Hands Inside The Car’ then deploys a wonderful eccentric atmosphere through a deadpan vocal hook that wraps itself around a killer combination of sub bass, freestyle beats and deranged reversed elements.

‘Vodonik’ finishes with a stark, glacial rave beast, very much a reaction against Cowboy Rhythmbox's usual maximal approach. This is stripped-down-to-the-bone body music that will work in the most cavernous of rave palaces or the most intimate seedy basement club.
