Introducing the debut EP from the visionary electronic artist Federsen, What Robot Says Records proudly presents a mesmerizing journey into the depths of dub-infused electronic music. Hailing from the vibrant city of San Francisco, Federsen, also known as Chris Kelly, brings forth a sonic landscape rich with the influence of dub reggae recording techniques.

Within this inaugural release, Federsen masterfully melds vintage tape delays and analog equipment to craft a sonic experience unlike any other. Each track within the EP is a testament to Federsen's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to weave intricate melodies with hypnotic rhythms.

New Jersey-born Ali Berger is a drum machine specialist and low-key US electronic music standby, now based in Pittsburgh after spending the 2010s in Boston and Detroit. His catalog of original music runs deep, with over 60 releases on his Trackland label and EPs on imprints like Spectral Sound and Sequencias, all resulting from a lovingly-cultivated studio approach which respects improvisation as a spiritual practice. 

Here with this sublime release on Scissors and Thread, Ali shares a multitude of sounds and atmospheres across the five tracks. As Ali himself puts it “This record collects tracks from the last three years, plus 0221 (Serious Mix) which is from 2018. There's a full cross-section of production techniques represented here, from one-take jams to multi-tracked compositions, but through it all there's a deep melancholy which (I hope) is tempered by enough groove to be uplifting. Maintaining emotional balance takes constant, caring attention; music is a part of that process for me and these tracks reflect that.”

This balancing of melancholic atmospheres and groove is evident throughout -  Rhythm & Simplicity is a low key thoughtful banger for the more discerning dancefloors, while A New World To Forget also exhibits a deep love of cultured house music and analog drum machines. Tape Jam Pt 2 is the perfect mix of improvisation and pure groove, put down in a rough and gritty fashion. 0221 (Serious Mix) merges a breakbeat with pads and synths that give off a balearic sunrise vibe, while Motion Anthem wraps up the EP with a tougher groove coupled with wistful melodies and oceans of feeling.

20 years ago, i started my electronic music journey and about 8 of them, i produce my own waveforms. I’ve always tried to bring my own visions to life and do the things i love in the way that seems to be right for me. With Spectral Ranges my first album arrives and i‘m very exited to finally present it to you all.

A huge part of my art always has been the DIY concept. The projects goal was to do it 100% my self. Starting from writing and producing the music, up the to mastering and building 100 wooden cd cases including carbonated compact discs for the physical version of the album. I seriously underestimated how much work you can put into a project like this and realized, that especially the physical version isn’t buildable alone in terms of precision and an overall good quality, so the guys from CNC-Holzbude (www.cnc-holzbude.de - special thanks to Mr.Chips) helped me out in the development process and milled the raw cases with their CNC-Machine.

Just as the music is inspired by nature, so are the cd cases. They are handmade products, mostly out of natural materials. CNC-milled at CNC-Holzbude (www.cnc-holzbude.de - special thanks to Mr.Chips). Hand-sanded, glued, assembled, painted and hand-stamped by Schulz Audio. There are of course irregularities and flaws which give every single case its own uniqueness.

The overall project is a synthesis of art for me and i hope you find some peace and inspiration in it.

Natur, the Brazilian producer known for his evocative soundscapes, makes a compelling return with his latest release on the Mood Series. The album opens with 'Dreams In Dub,' a track that sets a soothing tone with its airy chords and melodic undercurrents. The atmosphere is electric yet calming, reminiscent of brainwaves, creating a low BPM drift that feels like riding a gentle wave. The track's ambient fade-out leaves a lingering sense of relaxation and awe, making it a perfect introduction to the album's intricate sonic world. 'Echosphere' follows with a mid-tempo dub techno rhythm that's ideal for opening any DJ set. Phenomena by Basicnoise, the 39th full-length on Greyscale, is a mesmerizing exploration of the natural wonders that inspire us. The album is a deep dive into the mysteries of meteor streams and starling murmurations, translating these awe-inspiring phenomena into evocative soundscapes. The feeling of movement and flight are captured perfectly thru different variations of generators. Basicnoise employs a blend of vintage techno sounds and current dub techno elements, occasionally delving into deeper Detroit techno with impressive results. The album balances his talent with the technical prowess into a deep emotional resonance, creating tracks that are both innovative and deeply moving.

To touch on a few of the impressive tracks, 'Midnight Dub' for example, is a chord-driven masterpiece that rises and swells organically, balancing the line between dark and light. The hypnotic progression of the chords creates a compelling listen. In an homage to deep Detroit techno, 'Sakura Season' features a beautiful melody and an up-tempo pace. It echoes the ultra-smooth, futuristic spirit of the '90s, reminiscent of artists like Stasis, As One, and Future Beat Alliance. 'Reduxtion II' is a heavy chord banger with clean production throughout. This track boasts crisp high frequencies and reverberating low frequencies. It's a powerful and energetic addition to the album. Also, we have the breathtaking 'Quadrantids'. Here, the melody soars continuously, evoking a sense of spiritual high emotion. It's an "eyes shut" track that takes listeners on an emotional journey. 'The Starling Murmuration' is another poignant techno mood piece. This track features a spacey trip through the cosmos with a bubbling bassline, deep groove, and an underlying acid line. It's a tech workout with a captivating, otherworldly feel. Not to be outdone, 'This Vortal Coil' has a haunting melody with a wicked deep groove and scintillating chord progression that achieves an abstract yet magical harmony. Lastly, like a romantic goodbye in the sky to a long flight journey of a recurring meteor, 'Zen, or the Skill to Catch a Break' concludes with this amazing ambient outro. Lush, airy, and magical, it sounds like a fairytale, providing a serene and satisfying end to the musical journey.
