Rapper. Songwriter. Skateboarder. Raised on old-school hiphop, Alternative rock and a deep love for the board, rapper Gabriel “GA” Avrett is the kind of creative who isn’t afraid to evolve or experiment with his music. The 25 year-old North Georgia native lives by his own set of rules, as exemplified in the use of his government name as his stage moniker. The man you see is also the artist you get.
As a kid who experienced a difficult upbringing, GA’s music taps into the spirit of childhood trauma and teenage rebellion as well as the daily challenges maturing young adults face. From surviving drug abuse to dealing with bouts of depression, GA’s content reflects that however, like life itself, it changes to indicate the season he’s in. This is why He targets “ BROKEN YOUTH “ GA signed to independent label Authentic Empire Music Group in 2019 but is Now fully Independent and has made it clear through his streaming numbers that there’s no need to question his authenticity or passion.
Inspired by Eminem and Lil Wayne in addition to being influenced by his parents’ musical icons, which included Black Star, Talib Kaweli, 50 Cent and Outkast, GA cut his teeth on solid lyricism and flawless storytelling. His trippy vibe was established in middle school when he started penning songs. By the time he was 17, he was exploring the sounds of rock music and intertwining it with hiphop; making his own artistic statement. Encouraged by friends to pursue music professionally, the teenager started performing at open mics. He quickly garnered a solid fanbase and dropped a pair of singles, “One More Time” and “Fall Off,” which after playing just 30 seconds of “Fall Off,”, inked a deal. Independently and with no promo, GA racked up over 500k streams on platforms such as Apple and Spotify. The in-studio visual for “Fall Off” brought in over 100k views on Youtube.
Just as his future was looking bright, GA’s past run-ins with the law eclipsed his light. Burdened by fighting multiple cases in court, GA ultimately opted into a rehab program to avoid jail time. For 6 months he didn’t perform or release any material. Instead, he visited high schools and warned students about the repercussions of making bad decisions. While the goal was to help empower the youth through his testimony, he was empowered in the process. He discovered his purpose through the pain. There was renewed vigor in his art and also a transformational energy that manifested in various creative ways.
GA began making songs that highlighted a more tongue-in-cheek humor and lifestyle. On the Beats By Trav-produced single “Gimmie Some,” the wordsmith rhythmically flows with a palatable smoothness about relationship drama over an uptempo guitar- tinged track. The dichotomy between the heavy subject matter and feathery synth-pop beat provides evidence that GA has not only found his groove but is finally having fun.
