I'm not a club DJ, I assemble playlists for GAMERS (DnD, LARPs, etc) which require a flow that is different than club playlists, with NO talking, no ads, and last 12 to 48 hours non-stop. ok, I've been hounded for a few years now to do playlists for Country and Rap. When it comes to both of those genre's I'm EXTREMELY picky. I'm old school country, meaning much of what is considered country today ISN'T. In the 70s Country Western radio stations added Honky Tonk and Rock-a-Billy to playlists to stay relevant. And if they didn't they were going out of business fffffaaaaast! IMHO that's Country Crossover, but still Country...barely. In the 90s they expanded again to include Southern Rock and Bluegrass Rock. I remember when those stations to refused to play Eagles records because "they're too much Rock. If they replaced electric guitars with slides, we might consider playing them in future." No shit, the largest chain of Country stations owner said that to Billboard in 1972. Then those same asshats sons added them in 1993 after both their fathers died. 2 years after that, they were admitted to the CM Awards and CM Hall of Fame. HYPOCRITES!!! Do your homework kiddies and be careful who you endorse with your hard earned money.

As for Rap, it's a mixed bag of reasons. 1st is I'm a classically trained musician, (violin and operatic voice, rhythm percutionist.) By definition a song is a melody divided into intro+verse+chorus+bridge+ rinse and repeat until closing. Also music is defined as original content played on instruments by musicians (the voice is technically defined as an instrament.) So by definition Rap is organized noise, not music. Don't yell at me, thats what's in every music theory textbook from the beginning of the printed word. So it took a long while for me to overcome that narrow minded brainwashing. It was MTV that opened my mind and musical horizons to Rap as music. And as such turns out I'm pretty picky about it. If it's disrespectful to women, racist, or glamorizes criminals and criminal behavior, I won't have anything to do with it. But it it has something thought provoking or original to say, or unique in perspective, I'm all ears. To give you an example of what I use as a measuring stick, if it doesn't hold up to the standard of Grandmaster Flash, Gorillaz and Digable Planets. If not, then it will be switched or turned off in first 30 seconds or less.
