Hailing from Germany and now based in Portugal, @vril_01 has in recent years been quietly producing and performing some truly extraordinary electronic music. Going from strength to strength, he takes dancefloors on vivid, compelling journeys across Europe and beyond.

Patterns of Perception 121 takes us back to a very special live ambient set .VRIL performed at @nachtdigital MINT 2019, an immersive hour of lucid textures and swelling intensity.

F-on, the alias of Alfonso Pomeda, is known for his profound progressive sessions with long mixes, creating voyages through experimental music, ambient, and dubby techno. His productions are 4x4 experiments at a low tempo, incorporating field recordings, timbres, textures, and cinematic structures. He is a resident at Alpenglühen and Taiga sessions and co-owner of the label Antimatter. Additionally, he runs the Alpenglühen label, which focuses on deep and ambient techno, exploring the line between light and darkness.

Mareena, the founder of Unrush, met Alfonso at the Mostra Festival in Barcelona un 2023. Their connection through music was immediate, making it natural to invite him to Unrush…

EMC welcomes Joan Gila!

Joan Gila, a vinyl enthusiast, is the curator of @hoc-radio and also manages a small cassette label focused on ambient, avant-garde, and experimental music called @red-edge-label. He is part of the duo @binomi with his friend @slim-jordi.
This DJ set was recorded in Madrid at the Temple event, curated by @machines-desirantes and @javier-camunas, which takes place at @espacio-perpendicular, an intimate venue with exquisite sound. This particular set is Temple 03 featuring @hardcore-chillout, and it's an exercise in mixing and merging an older record from around the 80s with a new one, playing with them in such a way that the listener doesn’t know where they are.

sounds of healing vol. 6

This set was recorded live at Springkell in November of 2023 - a special gathering of artists, audiophiles and friends in a Scottish castle, with 3 non-stop days across 2 rooms, of ambient, techno and experimental music. For the past 3 years it has been a supreme annual highlight to attend as a guest, and last November I was honoured to be invited to play there for the first time.

The set was recorded early on the final evening of an icy cold weekend, so I looked to build the energy as we entered the final phase of the musical programme. A blend of new cuts and old classics. 

A very special one to me, that I hope you all enjoy xxx

Submoon aka Alesandro Tasso is a passionate producer and DJ from southern Italy.

Since 2007 his love for the Techno sounds of Dub and 90s Detroit has allowed him to experiment and express his passion as a self-taught producer releasing on record labels such as Ranges, Etui Records and Vuo records.

In 2014 he joined the Sound Department crew, spreading his idea of Dub/Techno music in one of the most active clubs in southern Italy.

In recent years he has also participated in a local collective that organizes parties articulated by different thoughts about the various possibilities that art can tell through sound, drawing, photography but also and especially perception. The culmination of everything started in 2019 with the party called "Forma," and then turned into a reality in 2021 with “Salotto Elettronico”  that is still held every Sunday at Mercato Nuovo (Taranto). During this summer he also had the chance to play at “Redrum" in collaboration with Sound Department (Taranto).

From 2016 to now he is behind the scenes of several electronic music projects, as well as curator of the record label Ranges together with his friends as well as label owners Hydergine and Kaelan/2030.

Over the years it has had the opportunity to warm up with artists such as: Marco Zenker, Fluxion, Peter Van Hoesen, Paula Temple, Shxcxchcxsh, Aril Brikha, Domenico Crisci, Stephanie Sykes, Headless Horseman, & More ....

Ranges Podcast 08 : Submoon

Today, we're returning to the enchanting forests of the Spanish midlands and our beloved Delayed x Perpendicular series. We're excited to introduce a multidisciplinary artist whose work continues to inspire and surprise us - Javier Marimon. This Spaniard, who spent a significant time in the Far East exploring new cultures and perspectives, has been a key figure in the international underground music scene for many years. His unique approach to dub-infused techno, halftime, and experimental sounds infuses his creative process with playful energy, evident in his music production, DJing, and graphic design.
Those fortunate enough to meet Javier in person are immediately struck by his infectious charisma and positive energy. While his music often leans toward the deeper, dubbier, and darker realms of electronic music, there's always a sense of freedom and playfulness in the way he combines elements and creates different rhythms.
With that in mind, we're proud to present this special hybrid set that Javier played on Sunday midday at the Perpendicular Festival. The set is deep and dubby, with glitchy moments and meticulous attention to detail. The atmosphere Javier crafted perfectly matched the setting, and the set remains engaging from start to finish.
The scene needs more artists like Javier Marimon, whose creative contributions continue to inspire others. We're thrilled to feature this mix.

Awareness XXII: Ben Buitendijk

London-born, LA-based Ryan Griffin began @astrangelyisolatedplace a decade ago as a manifestation of his love for collecting and sharing music. The project soon grew into a vinyl label and a community of artists sharing a reverence for a diverse and esoteric range of genres, from ambient to electronica, modern classical to techno. Artists releasing on the label currently include Merrin Karras aka @chymera, Arovane (@arovane-1), Leandro Fresco & Rafael Anton Irisarri (@irisarri), @purl, and @markusguentner.

This atmospheric selection incorporates into A Strangely Isolated Place's signature sound additional elements of the trance and house music genres on which Ryan cut his DJing teeth. An organic approach to selection and mixing ensures a richly layered collage that manages to take some startling turns while remaining effortlessly cohesive throughout.

The goal of this feature and accompanying mix was to create a journey of escapism and comfort. Whereas the previous Portals feature, ‘Music For Sleeping’ could be deemed very similar, the approach here focused on keeping an attentive layer/s that ended up being more pure to Brian Eno’s definition of ambient music: “As ignorable as it is interesting”, which actually aligns very well with the definition of what it means to be mindful; "the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something”.

Bright Patterns with Vicki Siolos @ The Lot Radio 11 - 21 - 2019

Like many of you we long for the halcyon days of Halloween past, when art students could proudly let their papier-mâché freak flags fly and the opportunity to console a weeping Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle outside of a chip shop late at night was always right around the corner, but reading the ominous glowing writing on the wall it seems like it will be some time before we experience that type of magic again.
We can't fix the world unfortunately, but we can give you this suitably demented recording of the spookiest member of our organisation playing for a bunch of heathens in a South London forest for last years' Halloween celebrations as a treat. Maybe if while listening to it we all focused our will on dark, arcane forces we could convince Pazuzu to drop grand pianos upon the people who have mismanaged this crisis so spectacularly. Or we could simply enjoy this mix from our Stu while staying safely inside and away from clatty plague raves. Either/or.
