Falling Down (feat. StarSystems, Michael Riehlman, Benjamin Bailey)

I've been writing fairly consistently over the past month or two, although my progress is typically slow at the best of times. Apologies for mediocre MIDI piano and bass! This time around, having a bit of an idea of what I'll be [hopefully] capable of in terms of recording or fleshing out any given arrangement, it's been interesting to be able to envision a more 'complete' texture, rather than just having piano ideas and then having to stumble forward from there.

This is a spacey middle section to a song I recently just about finished up the first demo of. I'm trying to be a little more patient in presentation of ideas for the next album. Rather than having each section be succinct, just throwing ideas consecutively at the listener, giving more sections time to breath and develop. Some of my favorite moments on the first ep are when I manage to pull back from the freneticism in the piano writing, allow it to be occasionally more textural than always at the forefront.

Additionally, one of the goals of the new set of writings is to have a little more creativity with the process of recording itself, whether with layering or adding in prepared piano sounds. To that extent, as you can hear here, there's 2 piano tracks, panned hard left+right which are ALMOST identical, but when they deviate there's a sudden flutter of harmony, that I hope will translate as a neat effect.
