"Will Saul’s AUS Music has seen a number of new additions to the roster this year as the label continues to prosper. Now - adding to names such as Timothy Blake, Geeman and Escape, AUS welcome in another auspicious producer by the name of Fold. Having released records on Man Make Music and Electric Minds - Fold lines up his ‘Netflix & Chill’ EP: a potent stack of Hip-Hop indebted House tracks backed up by the extolled and shady Kassem Mosse on remix duties.

‘Calmer Mood’ kicks things off, hopping between bpms and driving grubby and groovy samples over a rough kick. Filters control builds peaks and troughs guaranteed to set things off before ‘Wallop’ rattles off with powerful 909 drums and truncated samples in a manner that will please fans of his ‘Mr Wood’ no end.

‘Dreamscape’ then melds deftly chopped breaks with Jazz melodies to set a rich, blue tone that’s propelled into overdrive by splashing drum solos stitched together with flare. Workshop owner Kassem Mosse then offers up his interpretation of ‘Dreamscapes’ and in doing so introduces a subtle degree of melancholy to the original that links rich, spectral pads with tumbling breaks and delayed Sax stabs that round off another fine addition to AUS’ catalogue."

Across three reflective and cosmic originals, producer Parks Perdue unleashes an array of extra-lush pads, and deeply melancholic acid bass. Sci-fi atmospheres and nods to classic rave and electro squeeze their way into bricked waveforms… rough but not too rough distortion… and a hard hitting but bubbly remix by Belgian producer Innershades (@innershades) rounds out the 12”, solidifying it’s direct and inspirational intent. Quavius, the deep south vagabond known for his raw and sophisticated dance collages returns to Lustwerk Music with his second EP for the label, Find Ready. 

While mostly an instrumental affair, Find Ready is an updated glimpse into the producer / rapper’s latest repertoire, ranging from the sunny, Baltimore club-influenced house of “Flo Central” to funky Motor City workouts like “Heaven Is In You” and “Find Ready”. The EP starts off on a high clip with a nostalgic, forward-driving deep house instrumental, “That Beat.”

Quavius dons the mic on three of the seven tracks. “The Gist”, the EPs cornerstone, sounds something like a Rakim-meets-Sensate Focus. The A and B side are each topped off with downtempo Hip-hop. “Let it Rock” and “Fa Sho” are contemporary updates on cloud rap that bleed atmosphere and confidence while revealing Quavius’ knack for tight songwriting and arrangement.

Yak, real name John Randall, is a Sheffield-based classically trained musician. He’s had a number of releases on respected labels such as R&S Records, 3024 and Black Beacon. However, it was his “Midi/Darunia” 12” on Version that really caught Phonica Records’ ears the most and got them to pursue him for the next release on their main imprint. 

The Gerudo EP is a 4 track affair with a percussive presence to be reckoned with. Our premiere today is the B2 and title track on the record, Gerudo.It’s built around a loose and organic percussive groove with understated thumpy kicks. An arpeggiated melody and metallic synth stabs are the first semblance of machine intervention. Followed up by warm airy pads, the track then steadily builds up and transitions into an intoxicating euphoric piece that’s bound to close a few eyes on a late night dance floor. Gerudo beautifully balances itself, incorporating natural instrumentation and analog machines in a harmonious nature. Our only qualm is that we wish it were longer.
