Dawntempo is my take on an alternate late night vibe...  when at the end of a night out, the sky is teasing purple, and people are ready to sit down to connect with friends they are faced with a choice… stay out, or head home.  If they can find a place where the vibes are chill, and there’s some comfy seating, then the party is elongated over smiles, laughter, and blissed out emotional beats.

And if the scene is just enticing enough… that critical mass makes it to sunrise to imprint their most magical highlight reel memories.

I believe (true) downtempo is a lost art and that this early morning slot is the perfect place for its triumphant return as people dance, cuddle or converse while FEELING beautiful bass music fueling forever friendships.

I've been known as the sunrise guy for years, but I've come to believe that it's really all about the dawn...

The highlight of 2022 for me was a sunny beach party with 300 of our friends on the shores of beautiful Victoria, BC.

This is the set I played.

It's a fun, hoppin' sonic journey that starts with some favorite remixes/remakes of timeless classics and then moves into some new territory for me, verging on Bass House. Then near the end it gets melodic again featuring some other current favorites that have received regular play this summer.

Huge thanks to The Gathering for having me out again.  Back in the day, when I first started going to parties, there was always a chill-out stage.  It wasn't where the big names played, but it was THE place to hang out with friends.  Over the years, those stages have vanished, so I believe downtempo is like a lost art.

Dawntempo is my unique brand of that -- downtempo at dawn.  It's vibey, and it makes you want to wiggle, but it's also chill enough that hanging out and talking with friends feels totally appropriate.

What would it sound like for Disco Terrorist to DJ a wedding?  Well, I had to find out so I played a sunset set at my own wedding!  I wanted to have a very accessible set for our guests who don’t normally listen to electronic music but I still wanted it to be bangin for all my friends who do. SUNSET LOVE DISCO

The Colorado rave scene of 2001 was his first major influence. Gano was throwing parties and spinning acid and tribal house. Then moving to San Francisco, his sound got deeper, more organic. And he discovered the Burning Man vibe via the legendary after-hours parties, like Anon Salon.

In 2007, he met his wife on the playa and chased her to Vancouver island where he subsequently immersed himself in the B.C. house and techno scene. Playing clubs and festivals (e.g. Rifflandia 2017) across the province and performing alongside world-class artists, his loyal, discerning fan base quickly grew.

Next came the TreeHouse. He and his crew built a 30' long mobile rave unit (aka mutant vehicle) featuring a 10kw sound system, 20' tall fiberglass trees (with sound-responsive LEDs), and a roof-top dj booth + dance floor. For 2013 & 2014, the TreeHouse won hearts across Burning Man with their soul-warming blend of house music.
