Mystic Delirium

Scheherazade is the daughter of the vizier of the Persian king Shahryâr (Persian شهريار, DMG Šahryār, 'friend of the empire'), who was betrayed by his wife. That she had become involved with a black slave was a particularly shameful offense in his eyes. Convinced that there is no faithful woman on earth, Shahryâr resolves never to be deceived by a woman again. Therefore, he marries a new woman every day, whom he has killed the next morning.

In order to put an end to this, Scheherazade has her father give her to the king as a wife. During the night she begins to tell the king a story, the plot of which is interrupted the next morning. Curious about the end of the story, King Shahryâr lets her live. Sheherazade is assisted by her sister Dinharazade, who asks her every night to continue the story or to tell a new one.

This kind of storytelling goes on for 1001 nights, during which Scheherazade gives birth to three children. In the end, King Shahryâr is convinced of his wife's faithfulness and so impressed by her cleverness that he lets her live.

Scheherazade ist die Tochter des Wesirs des persischen Königs Schahryâr (persisch شهريار, DMG Šahryār, ‚Freund des Reiches‘), der von seiner Gemahlin betrogen wurde. Dass sie sich mit einem schwarzen Sklaven eingelassen hatte, war in seinen Augen ein besonders schändliches Vergehen. Davon überzeugt, dass es keine treue Frau auf Erden gibt, fasst Schahryâr den Entschluss, sich nie wieder von einer Frau betrügen zu lassen. Deshalb heiratet er jeden Tag eine neue Frau, die er am nächsten Morgen töten lässt.

Um diesem Treiben ein Ende zu bereiten, lässt Scheherazade sich selbst von ihrem Vater dem König zur Frau geben. In der Nacht beginnt sie, dem König eine Geschichte zu erzählen, deren Handlung am nächsten Morgen unterbrochen wird. Neugierig auf das Ende der Geschichte, lässt König Schahryâr sie am Leben. Unterstützt wird Scheherazade dabei von ihrer Schwester Dinharazade, die sie jede Nacht um die Fortsetzung der Geschichte oder eine neue Geschichte bittet.

Diese Art des Geschichten Erzählens zieht sich über 1001 Nächte hin, während derer Scheherazade drei Kinder zur Welt bringt. Am Ende ist König Schahryâr von der Treue seiner Frau überzeugt und von ihrer Klugheit so beeindruckt, dass er sie am Leben lässt.

She has brought her beautiful voice and musical sensitivity to the song and made it much more interesting. This was a treat for me and gets closer to the aim of paying homage to the amazing Ella.
