"La Tarabita"
Dedicated to Anna Mena

La Tarabita is a Flamenco-Tango dedicated to the Pagliuca-Mena brothers's mother, Anna Mena, who is herself a dancer of Spanish music.

It's at the same time a dream come true for the brothers because since they were kids in Venezuela, they always dreamt of the Flamenco legend Jorge Pardo (flutist with Chick Corea, Paco de Lucía, etc.) recording this exact tune with them. 

They recorded the Piano, Bass and Drums, while still in Maracaibo, around 2014. The bass player was Silvano's double bass teacher at the Conservatory, Elvis Martínez, one of Venezuela's most important musicians, now based in Miami USA.

In 2018 the Pagliuca-Mena brothers moved to Madrid where they met Jorge Pardo through Flamenco percussionist "El Guille". 

In 2021 Silvano met flamenco guitarist Pepe Carmona as they worked together in the same music school and started to collaborate musically including Angelo.

In 2023 Angelo showed his composition to Pardo and he accepted to participate in it, so, after almost 9 years the dream of having Pardo record the flute for them became reality.

This was a fun prompt because it - again! - made me do something new. I have a lot of “leftovers” in Ableton Note on my phone because I use it often to doodle around, kill time - like a quick drawing in a notebook or even playing a short round of Tetris. I never finished anything with it, probably also because I have not used Live in many years. Note has an export feature that saves all parts in one file. I used this on an ambient doodle with flutes and synth sweeps. The export emphasized the sweeps and sort of mixed the parts together - I really don’t understand how this feature works! The result sounded interesting though and I processed it with granchild on Norns. I then added some bells to finish my reheated menu of leftovers.
