A talent from an impossibly young age, Chicago producer and DJ Ron Trent began his musical career aged 14, the year he produced the febrile, wild Chicago anthem "Altered States". His production output has barely let up since, minting numerous labels and sublabels to release his and other's music, most notably Prescription Records, which helped define the smoky and jazz-indebted sound of deep house in the 1990s.

This In Focus is a two and a half hour dancefloor session, exploring the sounds of one of Chicago house's most enduring talents. Compiled, mixed and edited by Secretsundaze.

Greg O'Connell aka BALMR is a DJ/Producer hailing from Cork City, Ireland. 
In his own words: 'It was difficult to escape the sound of House Music growing up in Cork'
He was heavily influenced by the sounds on the pirate station 'Radio Friendly' and tales of the infamous Sweat Nights with Greg and Shane (aka Fishgodeep) at the legendary Sir Henrys club. 
As an avid record collector from an early age, he began to play locally and then internationally, frequenting Amsterdam hotspots while hosting his Down Right Deep show on Deep House Radio. 
He always had a personal love for the Detroit sound e.g., Norm Talley, Mike Huckaby, Delano Smith, Moodymann etc,. and naturally moved into production.
He has had numerous releases and remixes in his catalogue on labels such as Nordic Trax, Kolour Detroit and Expanded Records as well as working on mixing for other artists on labels like Yore.

He is also one of half of the duo 'Southbounds Sounds', having recently featured as a guest on Lars Behrenroths DSOH show. 
BALMR has several other upcoming projects this year, including 2  vinyl only releases with one on 'Selections Label' out of Toronto featuring a remix from Glenn Davis, and another on Deeper Groove with his fellow collaboration partner Deep Excavations, featuring a remix from John Daly.

This is our live recording from Saturday afternoon @ Serenity Now (doof / festival), consisting of some of our most treasured records we own. The perfect representation of the coming together of like minded individuals. A boutique festival, a couple hundred people, nestled a little out of Sydney in the most lush little valley imaginable. Over this weekend, the most incredible music was on display from literally every dj & live act. Our hand & heart goes out to Jordan (TSURA), Donna (Auntie Donna), Kyle, Aaron & the team for pin point programming & welcoming Pip & I into the Serenity family cause by the end, everyone really did feel like family. He is a self confessed vinyl enthusiast from Sydney, pushing music that is characterised by rhythmic kick drums, off-beat hi-hat cymbals & synthesizers.
