NASA engineers combined three segments from the raw audio file recorded while the Perseverance Mars rover rolled across a section of Jezero Crater on sol 16 of the mission. Sections 0:20-0:45, 6:40-7:10, and 14:30-15:00 were combined into this 90-second highlight clip. There has been processing and editing to filter out some of the noise.

Analyse and recreation of these scenes in the instrumental writing, dealing with the concept of time and space in the context of musical speech. In the electronic part working with resynthesis of complex sounds and recorded noises and the spatialisation of textures and scapes in a 3D space.
I have used some synthesized sounds from the SPAD application of Charles Verron.

C’est dans la forêt que Nuria Gimenez Comas est ici allée chercher à la fois son imaginaire sonore et son inspiration — notamment dans la pensée de Giambattista Vico (1668-1744), historien et philosophe italien. Jouant sur l’opposition entre la forêt et la cité, l’un remettant l’autre en question, Vico met en regard intuition poétique et philosophie abstraite, sensorialité et fait politique. De tous ces concepts et images, la compositrice tire un essai musical sur l’imaginaire occidental. Dessinant diverses « scènes sonores », la partie électronique lui permet d’explorer la dualité entre son concret et son instrumental, à l’aide notamment du processus de resynthèse (analyse et restitution du son en temps réel)."

"Hyle. Les géants de Vico" - Diotima Quartet

This work, Frakture, was commissioned but the ASU Symphony orchestra and is scored for full orchestra, bass and snare drums in the hall and the audiences smart phones. I perform the phone layers of the work from stage, including spatial movement of sounds across the audience, the granulation of samples from the orchestra and the triggering of instrumental passages on the phones. This makes for a really ecosystemic performance where everyone is part of the creation of the work in the moment.

this is a little taster of a 50 minute performance work for resonating metal instruments, drums and Eurorack synth. Performed by Garth Paine and Simone Mancuso, the work will be premiered at the Musical Instrument Museum, Scottsdale, AZ on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
