THE BEE'S KNEES (May Song)

Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, I lived in a small 5th floor apartment w/my sister & parents.
In the apt directly above lived a kind elderly piano teacher. Each night at 8 PM, she would play her piano for the next hour or more . I would press my ear to the wall & intently listen, as the Joy in her playing was palpable;I was mesmerized by the palette of tonal colors of the piano along w/ the potent emotional pull  of the music.

Seeing the spark, my folks got me a toy piano (12 tiny keys) which I LOVED.  At 4, I didn’t  understand or appreciate that I was blessed w/ a musical Gift, bc it seemed such a natural thing.
Surprised that I could pick out tunes by ear, they bought me a real 88 key, circa 1911 upright piano for $25 which I cherished as my most valuable possession, & Mrs. Brockstein, the sweet lady from 1 floor up, became my piano teacher for the rest of my childhood.

In the 1960's I played keyboards in a progressive rock group based in the Village, NYC, on L.I., then we toured for a label, & became "Almost Famous" until a stint in the military (non-combat during Vietnam), followed by marriage & kids, forced me to give up my starving-artist bohemian lifestyle for a rewarding career as a piano tuner-tech to earn a steady living & raise a family. <——— This is the Ego narrative excuse I usually give for not following my heartfelt Spiritual dream of immersing myself in the creation and performance of music for my entire life.. 

Surviving a recent series of challenging Life Lessons (including hitting rock bottom), & now that I'm on my own again for the first time in decades, I’ve rearranged my priorities & reaffirmed my Spirit, pouring most of my efforts into once again creating music, only this time I am humbly aware that my "talent" does NOT ‘belong’ to me; it's really a Gift that's on loan from the Universe & one for which I will forever be grateful, for it has revealed a path of Joyful creativity that I will gratefully follow for the rest of my days.

PS Gary is my real name and 'Gary' is the most spiritually connected part of my essence. When Gary is birthing music, I am on a frequency that is directly connected to the Universe. Gary is Light; the music of the Universe comes through him, not to him – a true epiphany. (Please try your best to find & “tune in” to that connected frequency to experience the same intense Joy that I felt at the precise moment that the song was created. You'll know you are there when listening to the music brings you a tear and/or a rush of Joy).
PPS 'garu' is my ego, the ugliest part of my essence. A truly terrible character, garu is selfish, narcissistic, clever, & capable of hijacking my essence’s intellect & imagination to create ego-driven (often quirky) music. The songs that garu creates are heavily influenced by Ego, & you can hear It’s presence if you pay attention. garu is Dark; Ego works relentlessly to pull my essence away from the Light & towards the Darkness.
On many occasions, Gary & garu co-author a composition; the results are always distinctive.
I realize this duality concept can be confusing. It has literally taken me nearly a lifetime to unmask & now I want to share this understanding w/ the world (even at the real risk of being ridiculed).
I pray that, instead, you quiet your mind & take the time to find the frequency of Connectedness which channeled the music’s creation, Tune into it, & experience Its awesome Joy.
I re-visit that state of Joy each time I listen, & I wish to share that extraordinary experience w/ you in the spirit of Love and Connectedness.
My singing voice is mediocre; I don’t portray myself as a vocalist. I only sing to try & express what I hear in my head in the hope that a “tuned in” vocalist will hear something they connect with, & then record the song themselves, doing it the justice the Universe deserves.
