Nonna Fab is a core part of Sheffield’s progressive music scene, founding Apricot Ballroom, Footprints Jazz Club, Jazz On The Park Festival, and his band Fuji Speedway. He’s also part of the consortium behind Grub Records, a new record shop and wine bar opening this summer. As well as regularly playing as part of his duo with Apricot Ballroom, Nonna Fab’s back catalogue of releases explores house, boogie, jazz and broken beat.

This release shows an organic curation of instruments, touching on live elements, jazz improvisation and dance-floor orientated rhythms. We Still Out Here began a few years ago as a nod to the iconic NYC post-disco and proto-house sound, and to serve as a message that there are still producers out here working on and inspired by that sound.

PREMIERE: Claus Casper, Freiboitar - Little Lovin [Pomme Frite]

D.J. Rogers (DeWayne Julius Rogers) released the album «It’s Good To be Alive» back in 1975, it’s a fantastic soul album, ear candy from beginning to end, I highly recommend this gem, a cure for heart and mind.
I was looking for samples but ending up here with a stable edit of the track « (It’s Alright Now) Think I’ll Make It Anyhow».
I had fun in the process and would like to share.

Berlin-based Small Great Things boss Luca Olivotto inaugurates his new sub-label At A Glance imprint this August with his own ‘Over & Out’ EP, comprising four original cuts.
Born and raised in Italy before relocating to Berlin in 2015, Luca Olivotto has since become a staple of the underground House scene in recent years through the establishment of his Small Great Things imprint and accompanying events series Small Great House. Now Luca marks another new chapter in his career with the launch of his new sub label of Small Great Things, At A Glance, kicking off with a project from the man himself.
Title-track ‘Over & Out’ leads with Olivotto offering up a classic slice of House via a Hammond organ bass groove, choppy chords and cinematic strings, underpinned by crisp raw drums and soulful vocal lines. ‘Brace D’ then shifts gears towards a Disco House tinged aesthetic with guitar licks, bell chimes and tension building strings ebbing and flowing amongst fluttering bass notes, airy chords and swinging percussion.
Up next on the B-side is ‘I’m Gonna Stay’, a groove-drive House track fuelled by an amalgamation of intertwined chords and vocals which steadily build towards a jazzy, atmospheric breakdown before the bouncy groove kicks back in to carry out the rest of the composition. ‘World Wide’ then concludes the release on a deeper tip with hazy keys and pad swells floating atop organic percussion, organ tones and a bouncy bass line.

PREMIERE: Luca Olivotto - Over & Out [At A Glance]

"I was recently reminded by a video shared by the great Karizma of gospel singer Diane Williams & friends dancing along to a track he sampled her on (Work It Out) that in 2011 I released a record with Jon Reynolds' Landed label. On the 'B' side was a track called 'Sugar Hill' which borrowed heavily from Jazz musician, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus, with a groove based around loops and chops of his band and his drummer Dannie Richmond (a hero), which built to a social commentary monologue from the great man himself. I'd also taken a loop of a gospel chant from a Taj Mahal record which ran underneath. I made a very simple dub of just the drums and chants primarily as a 'DJ tool', either to mix with or use as a 'bridging track' in sets. There wasn't room for this on the vinyl release (which was mastered by the legendary Geoff Pesche at Abbey Rd.!). So it always remained in the personal 'digital' bag... until now! Now Djing at Electrik Disko every fortnight, and throughout the summer we are in the outside courtyard area in The Commercial Bar Wrexham. Nice sound system and great location ..puurfect.
